MG Cyberster

The world’s first open-top e-roadster, MG’s latest offering, the all-new MG Cyberster, launched in Malaysia.

A Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the two-door roadster (convertible – soft-top) underpins MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture.

Fully imported (CBU – China), available via MG Motor Malaysia are two variants (Cyberster RWD – MYR 300,548, Cyberster 4WD – MYR 320,548).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover vehicle (seven years/150,000 KM), BEV battery (eight years/180,000 KM) and BEV system (eight years/160,000 KM) warranties.

Colours (exterior+interior: Dynamic Red+Black-Red, Camden Grey+Black-Red, English White+Grey, Inca Yellow+Grey). 

Optional (MYR 2,000) contrast (Red – Camden Grey, English White) soft-top (standard – Black).

The all-new Cyberster has a slim, modern and clean-cut dashboard (Sport Interior Package – driver-centred-cockpit), linked to a low-rising Sport Centre Console (touchscreen: media/AC controls, vehicle telematics – button-style gear selector).

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees leather (Nappa) upholstery in two (dual-tone – Black-Red, Black-Grey) colour schemes with contrast trims (Silver, Gloss Black).

Equipped are screen displays (instrument cluster, auxiliary, infotainment, centre console panel), air-conditioning vents (horizontally slit), an ambient light system and foot pedals (floor-mounted: metal).

Inclusively, the layout is minimalistic and airy, with accessibilities ergonomically arranged (driver-centric, passenger-oriented).

Making up a three-screen-floating-setup, installed are 10.25-Inch (main: driving information) and 7.0-Inch (right side: vehicle telematics) LCD fully digital driver displays (instrument cluster, auxiliary screen).

Features are Bluetooth, media, navigation, MG iSmart (‘Hello MG’ voice command, MG mobile app) and vehicle telematics.

Sportily plush, the interior (Cyberster RWD, Cyberster 4WD) sees leather-suede (Nappa-Alcantara) upholstery in two (dual-tone – Black-Red, Black-Grey) colour schemes.

The front gets electric-powered (driver-six-way-adjust, passenger-six-way-adjust, lumbar, memory) Sport seats (Y-shape).

Included are armrests (front – centre console), headrests (front) and retractable roof (soft-top – electric: open/close, backseat stowage).

The two-seater e-roadster offers adequate cabin space, providing enough interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear). 

Sufficient head, shoulder and leg rooms.

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-bottom Sport steering wheel, wrapped in leather (single-tone – interior colour dependent) with contrast trims (Silver, Gloss Black).

Features are multi-function (media, Bluetooth, voice recognition, vehicle settings), paddle shifters (right: drive modes – left: KERS levels), ‘SUPER SPORT’ drive button (Cyberster 4WD) and column adjustments (tilt, telescopic). 

Drive is aided by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.

Practical storage areas (side door/seat back/armrest pockets, partitioned/caverned/under-stowage centre console spaces, glovebox).

Provided are two cup holders (two – front) and two bottle holders (one – side doors).

Equipped are two USB ports (two – front).

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external devices.

Accessing its manual-operated (operation – remote/key fob, tailgate button) tailgate, opens to 249-Litres (rear seats up) of load capacity.

Weighing in at 1,885 KG (Cyberster RWD) and 1,985 KG (Cyberster 4WD), the all-new Cyberster measures at 4,535 MM long, 1,913 MM wide, 1,329 MM tall and with a wheelbase spanning 2,690 MM.

Sportily aerodynamic, its exterior parades a low-slung and wide stance, emphasised by sharply seamless and cleanly cut contours.

The shark-nose front-end sees a formed bonnet (mildly dipped), rounded quarter panels (beltline flowing flared fenders) and a sculpted bumper (Active Grille Shutters: AGS – air intakes: corners – front lip – MG emblem).

Accentuations, body trims (Black: grille, air intakes, front lip, side skirts, A-pillars – body-colour: front lip strip), frameless doors (electric: scissor doors), contrast roof (electric: soft-top – Black) and MG emblem (Chrome).

Athletically tapered, it continues the low-slung and wide profile, emphasised by angularly smooth and sharply creased surfaces.

The Kammback tail rear-end sees a sloping roofline, a concaved tailgate (mildly formed ducktail spoiler, Cyberster script), rounded quarter panels (muscular fenders) and a sculpted bumper (diffuser: exhaust-omitted, slatted, rear lip).

Accentuations, body trims (Black: diffuser, rear lip, side skirts, beltline surround – body-colour: diffuser strip), frameless doors (electric: scissor doors), contrast roof (electric: soft-top – Black) and Cyberster script (Chrome).

Sleek and sharp, the ‘Storm Eye’ headlamps are housed inward-tilted with pointed edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off/low-high-beam, Intelligent High Beam Control (IHC), sequential turn signals (LED), Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED) and follow-me-home lights.

Slim and 3D, the ‘Arrow’ tail lamps are housed full width (lightbar) with angularly sharp inverted L-shaped corners. Installed are LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, sequential turn signals (LED) and follow-me-home lights. Included is a high-mount brake light (spoiler integrated – LED).

The side mirrors (single-tone – body-colour) are electric-powered (auto-fold, adjust) with sequential turn-signals (LED) and blind spot-indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD).

Fitted are ventilated (front, rear) disc brakes (Brembo), featuring coloured callipers (Red). 

Aiding the setup is an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS – regenerative braking: three levels).

Sportily designed, mounted are sets of 19-Inch (Cyberster RWD) ‘Geometric’ multi-spoke (dual-tone – Silver-Black) and 20-Inch (Cyberster 4WD) ‘Jetstream’ seven-spoke (dual-tone – Silver black) alloy rims.

The sets are rubbered up in 245/45 R19-275/40 R19 (front-rear – Cyberster RWD) and 245/40 R20-275/35 R20 (front-rear – Cyberster 4WD) Pirelli P Zero Elect tyres.

The all-new Cyberster features the following sets of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Grouped are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Electronic Differential System (XDS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Intelligent High Beam Control (IHC), Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Other systems. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Stability Control System (SCS), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and Surround View Camera (SVC – reverse, 360-degree).

Passive safety includes four airbags (driver-passenger, front sides), seat belts (anchors, pretensioners, reminders), automatic headlamps (On/Off/low-high-beam), automatic-door locks (speed-sensing, central-locking, walk-away-auto-lock), automatic wipers (rain-sensing, intermittent), parking sensors (four – front, rear), parking cameras (reverse, 360-degree), rear-view mirrors (exterior: BSD – Interior: automatic-dimming), door ajar warning, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system and anti-theft system (security alarm, immobiliser).

Four drive modes are enabled (COMFORT, SPORT, SUPER SPORT – Cyberster 4WD, CUSTOM).

Included is a Launch Control system.

Making up a three-screen-floating-setup, installed is a 7.0-Inch (left side: interior controls, vehicle telematics) LCD touchscreen central display (infotainment).

Features are Bluetooth, media, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), navigation, MG iSmart (‘Hello MG’ voice command, MG mobile app) and vehicle telematics.

Included is a 7.0-Inch touchscreen centre console panel (AC controls, interior controls, vehicle telematics).

Entertainment is channelled via a BOSE audio system (eight speakers).

The all-new Cyberster underpins (Cyberster RWD, Cyberster 4WD) an all-electric (BEV) powertrain with variant-specific setups.

First e-powertrain (rear-mounted – Cyberster RWD) embeds a single-electric-motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (250 KW/335 HP, 475 NM).

Second e-powertrain (front-rear-mounted – Cyberster 4WD) cocoons a dual-electric-motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (400 KW/537 HP, 725 NM).

Churning the setup is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the rear (Cyberster RWD) and to all four (Cyberster 4WD) wheels, via Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) systems.

Incorporated is an Electronic Differential System (XDS).

Acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 5.0 seconds (Cyberster RWD) and 3.2 seconds (Cyberster 4WD). 

Top speed is 195 KM/H (Cyberster RWD) and 208 KM/H (Cyberster 4WD).

Powering the e-motors is a Lithium-Ion (Nickle Manganese Cobalt – NMC) battery (77 KWH – Cyberster RWD, Cyberster 4WD), enabling a total driving range (WLTP) of 508 KM (Cyberster RWD) and 446 KM (Cyberster 4WD).

AC charging (Type 2 – 7 KW) takes 10.5 hours for a 10% - 100% State-of-Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2 – 150 KW) takes 38 minutes for a 10% - 80% SoC.

Included is a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external devices.

The all-new Cyberster features these conveniences.

Underpinned is MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture. 

Propping-up the chassis (setting: soft suspension) is a setup of MacPherson strut (front) and multi-link (rear) suspensions.

Overall, it is solid and comfortable with a luxurious ride quality, refined and agile handling with smooth power delivery.

Good sound insulation, with all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects of the build accounted for. 

The cabin can suppress wind, road and tyre noises well (soft-top closed), making them barely noticeable at all speeds.

The all-new MG Cyberster is in a class of its own. Enveloped by a sportily luxurious appeal, it commands a sharp presence that is paired to a thrillingly dynamic driving experience.

A striking exterior, it is well designed with the aerodynamic proportions, powerful contours, and emphasis on the aggressive body sculpture.
