Summary

Expanding its electric vehicle (EV) line-up in Malaysia, Hyundai’s third and latest, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, officially launched.

The fully-electric saloon underpins the company’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), akin to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. 

Two variants available. Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) start from MYR 289,888 (Ioniq 6 Max RWD), and up to MYR 319,888 (Ioniq 6 Max AWD).

Each purchase includes a two-year/50,000 KM standard warranty, and an eight-year/160,000 KM EV battery warranty.

Optional upgrade (MYR 10,000), a five-year/100,000 KM extended warranty, and a three-year/50,000 KM free service program.

Five exterior colours. Abyss Black Pearl, Nocturne Gray Matte and Biophillic Blue Pearl (bottom cladding - Medium Silver Metallic), Dive Blue Solid and Gravity Gold Matte (bottom cladding - Black Metallic). 


Interior

Dashboard

A minimalistic build, dashboard of the 2023 Ioniq 6 portrays a clean, airy and modern layout, overall premium quality.

Outfitted with all-black panels and detailed with silver trimmings, the dash is dominated by a 24.6-Inch panoramic display unit (instrument cluster, infotainment - 12.3-Inch).

All in all, paired to a new bridge-style centre console, every accessibility is ergonomically positioned and driver-centric. 


Instrument Cluster

One half of a panoramic setup, installed is a 12.3-Inch Supervision Integrated Cluster-AVNT (Audio Video Navigation Telematics) display with a Heads-Up Display (HUD).

Seats

Upholstery is in all-black leather. Fitted up front is the Premium Relaxation Seat, and the rear comes with a standard bench seat.

The front seats feature power adjustments (eight-way with lumbar), ottomans and One-Touch-Recline. The rear seats get a 60:40 split-fold configuration.

Perfecting the interior’s overall ambience is a sunroof (Ioniq 6 Max AWD), and a 64-colour ambient lighting system with six dual-colour themes.

Space

For an average-sized sedan, the interior provides comfortable seatings with generous head, leg and shoulder rooms for all five occupants. 

It leverages more leg room for a wider knee-spread courtesy of the cocoon-style cabin, and a full leg-stretch courtesy of a flat floor structure of the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).


Steering Functions

Standard fitment is a leather-wrapped steering wheel, in a twin-spoke with a flat-bottom design, finished in black.

It features multi-function buttons (media, vehicle telematics), voice recognition, column adjustments (tilt, telescopic) and paddle shifters.

Aiding the drive is a Rack-Mounted Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS) system.

Storage Space

Several practical spaces available. E.g., centre console caverned and partitioned spaces, a drawer-like sliding glove box, and seat back and side door pockets.

Cup Holders

There are four cup holders, two located in the front centre console and two in the rear seating’s centre armrest. Also present are four bottle holders, located at each of the side door pockets.

Charging Ports

Equipped are five USB ports (one - type-A, four - type-C), a 12-V power socket, a wireless charger, and a 3.6-KW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability (outlets - interior, exterior).

Boot Space

Coming with the Smart Power Tailgate feature (hands-free), the boot provides a contactless tailgate function that opens up to 401-Litres of loading space. 

Also present is a front trunk (frunk) with a load space of 45-Litres (Ioniq 6 Max RWD) and 14.5-Litres (Ioniq 6 Max AWD).

Weighing in at 1,986 KG (Ioniq 6 Max RWD) and 2,096 KG (Ioniq 6 Max AWD), the 2023 Ioniq 6 stands at 4,855 MM long, 1,880 MM wide, 1,495 MM tall, and with a wheelbase spanning 2,950 MM.


Front View

Aerodynamically futuristic, it boasts an overall rounded design with smooth contours, reduced joints and seamless transitions.

The front-end features evenly-modelled surfaces, decorated with a new Hyundai emblem, and black trims (middle, lower corners - bumper).


Rear View

Sleekly-built, it further radiates the sporty appeal, exuding an angularly-curved layout with a coupe-esque roofline and a slightly pointed-out tailgate.

The rear-end features a rear spoiler with a High Mounted Stop Lamp (HMSL), and a fog lamp-integrated bumper cladding.


Headlamps

Projecting a softly-focused outlook, installed are Parametric Pixel LED headlamps with Intelligent Front-Lighting System. 

They are dual LED units (low, high), complete with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL), auto high beam and position lights. 


Tail Lamps

Futuristic-looking and stretching across the tailgate in a lightbar design, installed are Parametric Pixel LED taillamps.


Side Mirror

Electronically-adjusted and -folded, the side mirrors come with turn-signals and blind spot-indicators.

Fitted for the front and rear setups are a set of ventilated disc brakes (457 MM), accompanied by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold system.

Featured are Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Go (SCC w/S&G), Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA), Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 (FCA 2), Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA 2), Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA), and Surround View Monitor (SVM - 360-degree camera). Passive safety includes seven airbags (driver/passenger, driver knee, front, front side, rear curtain), seat belts (reminder, pre-tensioner, anchor), ISOFIX, impact beams, door ajar warning, electrochromic interior rear-view mirror, Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), parking sensors (four-front, four-rear), parking cameras (360-degree), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Infotainment

Completing the panoramic setup, installed is a 12.3-Inch Supervision Integrated Cluster-AVNT (Audio Video Navigation Telematics) display. It supports Bluetooth (multi-connection), voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Variant Ioniq 6 Max RWD is embedded with one rear-mounted electric motor, a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), generating 225 HP/168-KW and 350 NM of torque.

Variant Ioniq 6 Max AWD surges with two front- and rear-mounted electric motors, a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), making 321 HP/239-KW and 605 NM of torque.

Transmission

It has a single-speed automatic transmission, Shift-By-Wire (electronic shift system).

Drivetrain

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) system for variant Ioniq 6 Max RWD, and to all four wheels via an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system for variant Ioniq 6 Max AWD.

Acceleration

Sport Mode engaged, acceleration from 0 to 100 KM/H is done in 7.4 seconds (Ioniq 6 Max RWD) and 5.1 seconds (Ioniq 6 Max AWD). Top speed hits 185 KM/H for both variants.

Fuel Consumption

Juicing the e-motors is an 800-V Lithium-Ion Polymer battery (77.4-KWH), providing a driving range (WLTP) of 614 KM (Ioniq 6 Max RWD) and 519 KM (Ioniq 6 Max AWD).

Charging via AC (Type 2 connection) at 11-KW from a 0% to 100% state of charge (SoC) takes seven hours and six minutes.

Charging via DC (CCS2 connection) at 350-KW from 10% to 80% SoC takes only 18 minutes, and at 50-KW it takes 73 minutes.

Suspension fitted is a setup of Macpherson struts (front) and Multi-link (rear). Overall, inside and out, performance- and comfort-wise, the ride quality is satisfactory.

Sound Insulation
