Volkswagen ID.2all Concept EV Debuts – Up to 450 KM Range, Under €25K
Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new VW ID2.all concept electric vehicle (EV), previewing upcoming production models to be launched in the European markets later in 2025. Future models that are based on this concept promise to deliver up to 450 KM of travel range, while priced at around €25,000 (RM120,000 approx.) – making them one of the most affordable EVs in the world.
Contrary to early reports, the ID.2all underpins the shortened version of VW Group’s MEB electric platform – also used in several other VW ID electric models like the ID.3. While other MEB-based models utilise rear-mounted single electric motor setup, the ID.2all actually sports a front-mounted single motor layout, making it more closer to any ICE-powered, front-wheel drive (FWD) cars.
Measuring 4,050 MM long, 1,812 MM wide and 1,530 MM tall, the ID.2all slots perfectly between the Golf and the Polo, while having a similar wheelbase length (2,600 MM) to the former. In spite of its compact size, the ID.2all boasts a rather large cargo capacity of 490-litres, which can go up to 1,330-litres, thanks to the modularity of said MEB architecture.
Powering this concept EV is a single electric motor setup rated at 222 HP (160 kW), which propels the ID.2all from nought to 100 KM/H in less than seven seconds. While its electronically-governed V-max of 160 KM/H might not sound that impressive, the ID.2all is said to harness a maximum travel range of up to 450 KM.
Visually, the ID.2all features a familiar-looking design and styling cues that harkens back to any compact hatch models Volkswagen has ever produced. Its front fascia features a full-width lighting element, flanked by its headlights. Sitting below said lights is a front bumper with wide intake opening, giving the car a smiley-like appearance.
At the back, the ID.2all sports clean-looking, simple taillights design, also with a lighting element that runs across the car’s width – albeit thicker than the front one. The lower part of the rear bumper comes with a diffuser-like trim, finished in black to widen the car’s rear profile.
On the side, the ID.2all looks painstakingly similar to the Golf, thanks to the prominent C-pillar design and slightly curved roofline. The ID.2all also rides on a rather big and tasty-looking set of wheels, with five-spoke design and finished in dual-tone hue.
On board, Volkswagen has laced the ID.2all’s cabin space with a plethora of tech amenities, headlined by the 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display. If you’re not a fan of touchscreens, there’s also a control knob mounted on the car’s central console, with a huge VW logo embossed on it.
Underneath the screen lies the newly-developed climate control panel with illuminated physical buttons and a thumbwheel – addressing customer’s complaint on the finicky haptic touch controls in other VW models. A newly-designed steering wheel – also featuring physical buttons and thumbwheel instead of haptic touch controls – completes the ID.2all concept’s interior equipment list.
With the marque’s plan to go fully-electric commencing in full speed, Volkswagen is poised to launch several ID EV models this year, starting with the recently-launched ID.3 facelift, the extended wheelbase version of the ID.Buzz MPV, as well as the ID.7 EV saloon. Previously, VW Boss Thomas Schafer hinted that the next-gen VW Golf will don a full-electric cape for the first time in its history, possibly based on this ID.2all concept.
