Malaysian-Bound Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Scores 5-Star ANCAP Rating

The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro aces the Australian NCAP vehicle safety test, scoring a full five-star rating.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SUV has earned a five-star rating for the Australasian New-Car Assessment Program's (ANCAP) vehicle safety testing. Tested with the latest ANCAP crash test criteria introduced earlier this year, the Malaysian-bound SUV is the second Chery model in Land Down Under to achieve a full 5-star score for the testing, after the smaller Chery Omoda 5 B-segment SUV.

The Tiggo 7 Pro scores 88% for Adult Occupant Protection, 87% for Child Occupant Protection, 86% for Safety Assist crash-avoidance technology, as well as 72% for Vulnerable Road User Protection. For the latter criteria, this Chinese SUV is only two points shy of the 70% minimum required points to achieve the overall full 5-star mark.

On the ADAS front, the Tiggo 7 Pro recorded a decent performance for the Advanced Safety System test, with full marks given to its lane-keep assist system (LKAS) in preventing a collision with a car in the opposite lane. However, the car misses out on a few points for both its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system and the LKAS in preventing a collision with a motorcycle.

Chery Tiggo 7 Pro previewed in Malaysia back in 2022
Launched earlier this year in the Aussie market, the second-gen Chery Tiggo 7 Pro was initially previewed by Chery Malaysia back in 2022, where the Chinese automaker announced its comeback to our local automotive market space. For the Australian market, the Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a 1.6-litre 4-cyl turbocharged petrol mill that is mated to a CVT gearbox to deliver 184 HP and 275 NM to its front wheels (FWD).

Measuring 4,500 MM long, 1,842 MM wide, 1,746 MM tall, and a wheelbase of 2,670 MM, the Tiggo 7 Pro is positioned as the marque’s C-segment SUV fighter in its Tiggo lineup, which features other models like the Tiggo 8 Pro D-SUV, which is already launched in Malaysia, as well as the smaller Tiggo 4 Pro B-SUV. Priced from AU$37,030 (RM117,010) in the Australian market, the Tiggo 7 Pro serves as a great alternative to the more obvious C-SUVs like the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Hyundai Tucson.

While Chery Malaysia has expressed initial interest in bringing this C-segment SUV into our market, the Tiggo 7 Pro has yet to make its debut, even after more than a year since its initial preview took place. With the automaker being kept busy with the upcoming launch of both the Chery Omoda E5 EV SUV and its new Jaecoo sub-brand, perhaps it might take awhile before we see the Tiggo 7 Pro enter our burgeoning C-SUV market, with the latest addition being the newly-launched sixth-gen Honda CR-V.
