The Isuzu D-Max continues its winning momentum by charting yet another record-breaking sales figure in 2023.
The Isuzu D-Max pick-up truck continues its impressive growth pace by charting yet another sales record in 2023. Last year saw Isuzu shipping out 9,650 units of its best-selling model, surpassing the previous year sales figure of 9,211 units by a healthy margin of 439 units.
Not only does this figure continue the D-Max’s stellar sales performance, but last year’s figure is also an all-time high for the D-Max ever since the third-gen model was introduced to the Malaysian market back in 2021.
The increase in popularity of the D-Max pick-up truck has also reflected on Isuzu’s brand as a whole, with the Japanese truck marque now ranked second in Sabah, Kedah, and Penang in the pick-up truck segment. All in all, this positive trend sees Isuzu positioned as the third largest pick-up truck brand in Malaysia with a 16.6% market share in 2023.
The updated Isuzu D-Max 1.9L Standard is the most popular variant of the pick-up truck
Amongst all the D-Max variants, the baseline 1.9-litre Standard model proved to be the most popular of the lot, accounting for 28% of the D-Max’s total sales last year. Part and parcel of the D-Max Standard’s appeal to the masses is its modest engine displacement, which not only provides better fuel economy but also offers the benefit of lower road tax fees and overall running costs.
2023 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain
Meanwhile, demand for the range-topping D-Max X-Terrain variant also showed a positive trend last year, with the model showing a 24.5% increase in sales volume since its inception. Recently updated earlier last year, the D-Max X-Terrain now boasts several class-leading equipment and features, including a full suite of ADAS functions and an extended 7-year unlimited mileage warranty.
“Since the third-generation D-Max was introduced into Malaysia in 2021, interest in this model has remained consistently high thanks to its good features, excellent driving character, versatile operation, and impressive value for money. This new model has expanded our customer base by increasing our conquest sales by 185% while retaining our strong core customer base,” said Isuzu Malaysia CEO Mr. Shunsuke Okazoe.
“This third-generation Isuzu D-Max has been a revelation for the brand as it combines the best of Isuzu’s engineering capability with the modern sophistication and mindful ergonomics that customers today demand. This makes the D-Max a very capable yet liveable pick-up truck, satisfying every pick-up user’s needs. It is a truck for all,” added Mr. Okazoe.
