Warisan TC Appointed as GAC Aion EV Distributor in Malaysia

GAC Aion has appointed Tan Chong’s Warisan TC as the sole distributor for their EVs in Malaysia.
Chinese EV marque GAC Aion has appointed Warisan TC Holdings Bhd as the sole and exclusive distributor for their EV models in Malaysia. As reported by The Edge, a Bursa filing revealed that Warisan TC will be in charge of importing, distributing, selling, and performing after-sales services for GAC Aion EVs in our local market.

This partnership follows a previous agreement between Warisan TC and Aion’s parent company, Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAC), to locally assemble (CKD) GAC Motor’s ICE-powered models here in Malaysia. Said partnership saw a total of RM60 million worth of investments being put up, involving the manufacturing and assembly of the GAC GS3 SUV for our local market.
With this recent partnership already announced, this means that both GAC Motor and GAC Aion EVs will be under the same roof for the Malaysian market, with Warisan TC tasked with handling both brands. However, there are no indications of whether this partnership will involve any CKD efforts for the GAC Aion model, with the Bursa filing only dictating Warisan to only import and distribute GAC Aion EVs.
More importantly, this announcement will also see both GAC Motor and GAC Aion EV under the same roof, with Warisan TC in charge of handling both the ICE and EV models for our local market.

With this agreement signed on, we can expect to see several GAC Aion EVs making their landfall in our local market this year, and they might come sooner than you think. Recently, the GAC Aion S Plus EV saloon was spotted by one of MyEVOC’s Facebook group members, Faisal Hussamuddin.

For the Chinese market, the GAC Aion S Plus comes in several variants, boasting a maximum EV range of up to 602 KM (NEDC) and a total system output of 204 HP and 350 NM, courtesy of a single-motor RWD setup. Said powertrain setup is good enough to push the Aion S Plus from 0-100 KM/H in 6.8 seconds.
Measuring 4,810 mm long and 1,880 mm wide, the Aion S Plus is about the same size as the upcoming BYD Seal, thus putting it in the D-segment EV saloon category. Featuring a sleek and sporty saloon body style, the Aion S Plus boasts a coefficient drag rate of only 0.211 Cd, with GAC Aion claiming it to be one of the world’s most aerodynamic saloons.
