- Proton 2020 Sales Were Up 9%, Over 109k Units
Proton recently announced their 2020 sales performance that headlined a growth of 8.8% compared to the previous year.
The national carmaker sold 109,716 vehicles in what is thought to be just over 10 months of sales, almost 9,000 units better than the full year of 2019. The core of the 2020 sales was led by the Saga model, achieving 46,527 units.
Last year, Proton introduced the locally-assembled (CKD) X70, ending the year with 21,944 units which also makes it the leader in the highly competitive C-segment SUV category.
Proton says that with the Persona achieving 23,917 units, it is the best-selling B-segment sedan.
As for the recently launched X50, the national carmaker said production for 2020 was only at a target of 4,000 units, and thus customers will need to be patient as the wait can be as long as six months.
Proton CEO Dr. Li Chunrong said, “We are grateful to have achieved this level of performance against the backdrop of 2020. To describe it as challenging would be an understatement but we persevered. Our results were backed by many factors, trust from our customers, support from the government, commitment from vendors, resilience of our dealers and also the diligence of our staff.”
The year 2020 also saw Proton increase its distribution network by another 20 3S and 4S centres nationwide, bringing the total number of outlets to 140.
As part of the company’s long-term business evolution plan, Proton has also transferred ownership of 49 of its own sales branches.
