UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, the official distributor for Toyota vehicles in Malaysia,  has unveiled the facelifted 2021 Toyota Fortuner, boasting a new look, new performance and new features.

The Toyota Fortuner is only offered in two variants in Peninsular Malaysia, which are the petrol- powered Fortuner 2.7 SRZ AT 4x4 and the diesel-powered Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT 4x4. Both locally assembled variants will be priced at RM 172,244.00 and RM 203,183.00, respectively.

However, there’s also a Fortuner 2.4 AT 4x4 variant which is priced at RM 167,357.40, but this will only be made available in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

Caricarz.com finds the new Toyota Fortuner to be very appealing for various reasons.

First, the exterior. The new Toyota Fortuner comes with a very robust and sporty design. The sharp edges and creases making up the front, side and back of the vehicle really makes the body pop with style. The headlights have a very sharply narrow shape and paired with the menacing looking grille that is commanding the front which gives the vehicle an overall aggressive face. Also solely for the Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT 4x4 variant, the top half of the vehicle gets a sleek all-black finish.

Second, the interior. The cockpit-like dashboard gets a more driver-oriented layout with a new MID instrument cluster as well as a new touchscreen head unit which is more premium, modern and sleek looking. It also got new refined trimmings all around and a redesigned seat upholstery. To top it all off, it is fitted with soothing ambient lights surrounding the fine details of the interior.

Third, the safety features. The Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT 4x4 is the only variant to get the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) suite of systems installed which include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Pre-Collision System (PCS) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Yaw Assist Function (YAF). However, features that are standard across all variants include Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC), Hill-start Assist (HSA), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) and Vehicle Telematics System (VTS). These technologies are crucial and can potentially help to avoid serious accidents.

Lastly, the performance. The Fortuner 2.8 VRZ AT 4x4 is fitted with a new 1GD-FTV, In-line 4 cylinder 16 valve, DOHC Intercooler VNT diesel engine which can produce 201 hp of max power at 3,000 to 3,400 rpm and 500 Nm of max torque at 1,600 to 2,800 rpm, as for the Fortuner 2.7 SRZ AT 4x4, it is fitted with a 2TR-FE In-line, 4 cylinder 16 valve, DOHC Dual VVT-i petrol engine which produces 164 hp of max power at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of max torque at 4,000 rpm. All the variants get a 6-speed automatic with sequential shifters transmission and a part-time 4WD system.

Every new purchase of the Toyota Fortuner comes with a five-year and an unlimited mileage warranty. Also for individual private owners, all the prices stated above are on-the-road prices including SST, without insurance.

The all-new Toyota Fortuner is available for viewing at all Toyota showrooms nationwide. For more information, call Toyota’s Customer Careline at 1-800-8-869682 or visit www.toyota.com.my.
