Citizens’ attempt to return to their hometowns failed when 4,961 vehicles were ordered to turn back because they were found trying to cross the district and state without obtaining a police permit.

The matter was confirmed by the Director of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) Bukit Aman, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar.

He mentioned that a total of 4,961 vehicles were ordered to turn back due to failing to submit police permission letters to cross the state and district during the roadblock inspections that have been carried out nationwide.

"Based on the data obtained, the number of vehicles ordered to turn back the day before Hari Raya consists of 1,637 cars.”

"On the first day of Eid, a total of 1,107 vehicles were ordered to turn back. However, the number is seen to increase again to 1,138 cars on the second day of Eid and 1,079 cars on the third day of Eid, "he said.

Coming up to a total of 4,961 vehicles that were ordered to turn back from Wednesday to Saturday.

Commenting further on the matter, Abdul Rahim said, his party has also received a total of 119,705 applications to cross states and districts during the four days.

"113,048 out of the total 119,705 applications were approved while the remaining 6,657 applications were rejected due to unreasonable reasons," he added.

In regards to this, he advised the public to adhere to the instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that have been set to curb the spread of Covid-19 virus.

The police also stressed that they will not compromise with any party or individual who is found to be violating the SOPs set by the government.
