- Grander Refinements For The Grand Tourer, Bentley’s Flying Spur
Bentley’s world’s finest Grand Tourer, the luxurious Flying Spur, has become even grander with unrivalled refinements all around.
The opulent four-door sedan now comes standard with increased technology, comfort, new interior veneer choices and new exterior paint.
To begin with, adding more features to the luxurious cabin of the Grand Tourer is the ‘City Specification’ upgrade, which offers an array of optional content.
It ranges from Traffic sign recognition, hands-free boot opening, extended safeguard features, top-view camera, welcome lighting, automatic dimming mirrors and air ionisers.
Touching on the latter, the onboard air ionisers emit negatively charged particles from the central air conditioning vents to improve the cabin air purity.
Resulting in the removal of contaminants from the air that the occupants breathe and improving the feeling of wellness.
Moreover, the Flying Spur’s tranquility now benefits from applying the Virtual Prototyping method to deliver the ultimate acoustic performance by significantly improving its NVH factors.
This meticulous process enables acoustic tests for any airborne sounds filtering into the cabin to be completed and any impact from the structure to be identified, such as tyre and road noise.
“By using Virtual Prototyping, Bentley succeeded in what we set out to do, that is to optimise every component of the Flying Spur firstly in the virtual world before we create physical parts. At the same time, we have reduced physical prototypes while creating the quietest in-cabin experience for our customers,” remarked Bentley Motors’ acoustic engineer Simon Noble.
Aforementioned, other aesthetic personalisation options have also been offered in terms of the exterior and interior.
Exterior wise, it features a new Cambrian Grey hue, which provides a substantial performance presence from the current, solid grey.
With the addition of the new shade, it has extended Bentley’s wide range of standard paint palette to 63 shades.
Interior wise, it includes upholsteries with variations in colour and grain of different cuts of open-pore veneer, thereby offering an exclusive Bentley interior for each patron.
Speaking of which, the open-pore veneer features a range of types, namely, the Crown Cut Walnut, Dark Burr Walnut and Koa veneers.
Detailing further, every open-pore veneer fitted is finished with three ultra-thin layers of matte lacquer, solely to preserve its quality.
Also, each layer of the lacquer finish is applied by hand and sanded between applications to ensure the lacquer sticks to the natural grooves of the wood.
Thus, resulting in a wax-like finish that perfectly highlights the wood species’ authentic, natural colour and texture.
All in all, the supremely sublime Flying Spur defines W.O Bentley’s philosophy of reliability and refinement being the most vital aspects of a Bentley, which has continued to this day with the Flying Spur being the quintessence of modern Bentley luxury.
