High-Level Performance And Handling Dynamics, Honda Unleashes The NSX Type S

Serving as the ultimate version of its kind, Honda Motor has recently disclosed initial information on the new limited edition NSX Type S supercar.

The new NSX Type S is the final version of the 2nd generation NSX, and this supercar model sees limited sales of only 350 units worldwide, 30 units in Japan and 320 units outside of Japan.

Honda’s development team pursues the enhancements of performance and design, intending to create a model that goes beyond all NSX examples that came before.

Exterior wise, the NSX Type S can be seen with a revamped bodywork. It features a front end with larger air intakes and a back end with a downforce-exerting spoiler and a larger diffuser.

Complementing the silhouette are the wheels. It rides on new bespoke lightweight multi-spoke, forged aluminium rims wrapped in 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Moreover, a carbon fibre roof is standard, and so are the new Type S badges, red styling accents and the option of a unique matte paint finish.

As for the interior styling, it comes with an Alcantara headliner and embossed NSX and Type S logos on the glove compartment and headrests.

Bucket seats are fitted to further emphasise the driving experience, and the upholsteries are of semi-aniline full leather with multiple colour choices.

In terms of infotainment, it features a 7-inch widescreen high-resolution display that supports the Honda Internavi with link-up free and ETC in-vehicle device, and wireless connection via Bluetooth.

Performance aspects, the NSX Type S harbours a 3.5-litre V6 DOHC twin-turbo engine paired with two front-mounted electric motors.

Said three-motor system dubbed the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD has a total combined output of 584 hp of power and 771 Nm of torque.

This is achieved by equipping new fuel injectors, intercoolers and turbochargers taken from the NSX GT3 racer.

All that power is churned through the 9-speed multi-stage dual-clutch automatic transmission, which has been re-tuned for greater performance, with faster upshifts and aggressive downshifts.

The transmission also features a new rapid downshift button that allows drivers to skip several gears by holding the downshift pedal.

Furthermore, it features four drive modes, i.e., ‘Sport’, ‘Sport+’, ‘Track’ and ‘‘Quiet’’. Under the ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport+’ modes, the clutch has been upgraded to engage 50 percent faster.

Besides that, it features a rear seat-mounted high-power lithium-ion battery, which has been integrated with a DC-DC converter and ECU.

Also, the NSX engineers have improved the hybrid battery's usable capacity by 20 percent, and the output by 10 percent.

Speeding and braking come hand in hand, thus, the NSX Type S uses standard Brembo brakes with six-piston items at the front and four pistons at the rear.

Other than that, it is also equipped with safety features such as seven airbags, a tyre pressure warning system and a parking sensor system with eight ultrasonic sensors.

For extra flair, the new NSX Type S is also offered with a Lightweight Package that adds a high-gloss carbon fibre engine cover, carbon-ceramic brakes and interior carbon fibre elements for added flair.

Pricing wise, the new Honda NSX Type S has a price tag of 24,200,000 yen (RM 934,119), excluding the consumption tax. However, the prices vary depending on the exterior and interior colour.

Overall, the Honda NSX Type S provides a true super sports experience with a broad range of driving situations, including daily commuting, driving on winding roads and sports driving on a racing circuit.
