Volkswagen ID.5 GTX Introduced At IAA, SUV Coupe In Near-Production Concept
Making its debut at the 2021 IAA Munich Motor Show is Volkswagen’s first electric SUV with a coupe figure, the ID.5 GTX. Also, being the first vehicle based on the modular e-drive system Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB), this vehicle is set to step its foot into the real world.
Being a “coupe version” of the ID.4 GTX, this SUV features an elegant profile: a flowing roofline ending at the integrated rear spoiler, IQ.Light LED matrix headlamps, illuminated honeycomb elements, flat sloping A-lines, horizontal lines accentuating the width of the vehicle and 3D designed LED completing the rear. At the 2021 IAA, the ID.5 GTX was presented as a camouflaged study.
Based on the MEB system, the ID.5 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with an electric motor operating on both the front and rear axles. The large lithium-ion battery located between these two axles allows a range of up to 497 kilometres.
Additionally, the ID.5 GTX is a fully networked vehicle - allowing it to receive updates over-the-air, with the Car2X technology fitted as well.
The electric crossover is expected to arrive at dealers next year, the second model from the GTX portfolio. With the ACCELERATE strategy progressing, the brand aims to increase the share of all-electric cars in Europe to 70 percent of unit sales by 2030 and to become net carbon neutral by 2050.
