The Ministry of Works Malaysia (KKRM) has confirmed that PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will abolish Touch n Go (TnG) and SmartTAG cards on the North-South Highway between Juru in Penang and Skudai, Johor starting January 15.

Along the Juru and Skudai routes, Touch n Go and SmartTAG lanes will be removed and be replaced with RFID lanes.

Currently, Touch n Go and SmartTAG lanes are available. However, both systems will be phased out to provide more RFID lanes on the highway.

"Highway users can obtain RFID tags online through the Touch 'n Go eWallet application, Touch' n Go portal, appointed marketing agents or any of the 39 RFID tag installation centers throughout the Peninsula," KKRM said in the statement.

This action is taken to reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas as well as in line with the Smart Transport System Master Plan which includes a Multi -Lane Free Flow System.

RFID offers digital cash security and cashless top -up using Touch 'n Go eWallet without having to visit the top -up counter.

With RFID, customers also can enjoy a smoother non -stop ride on toll lanes at a speed of 30 kilometres per hour.

In fact, it also allows users to perform contactless toll transactions thus helping to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection.

RFID tags are available for RM 35 via the Touch 'n Go eWallet app, the Touch 'n Go portal, or authorized sales agents. You can also visit one of the 39 RFID fitment centres in Peninsular Malaysia.
