Honda Malaysia Reaches A Million-Unit Production Milestone - Civic RS Serving As A Watershed Model For The Melaka Factory
The Honda Malaysia assembly plant crossed a significant milestone in its history – the production of its one-millionth unit since commencing local assembly in 2003. The one-millionth unit was the latest 11the generation of the Honda Civic Sedan.
Honda Malaysia began local assembly in Pegoh, near Alor Gajah, in 2003, and today marks the 20th anniversary of that beginning. The automaker sold one million units in March 2021; today's 1 million mark is for Melaka-assembled automobiles.
“It has been 20 years since HM’s establishment in the country, and we have evolved and recorded significant achievements since then. In March 2021, we achieved the one-millionth sale unit milestone with all Malaysians. Just one year later, I am now celebrating another significant milestone with all of you, the one-millionth production unit,” said Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Madoka Chujo.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all Honda associates and suppliers for their effort, and hard work to ensure smooth production process and supply chain operations despite many challenges faced, including the Covid-19 pandemic, global chip shortage and recent floods.”
“With their dedication, challenging spirit and working together, we can achieve this remarkable milestone,” she added.
In January 2003, Honda Malaysia launched its No. 1 Line at the Pegoh factory. The factory had a production capacity of 50,000 units per year and was built on a 46,000 sqm plot. A second-generation CR-V was the first vehicle to leave Pegoh.
The Jazz Hybrid debuted on the No.2 Line in October 2013, and it was formally opened in January 2014. The second line increased overall capacity to 100,000 units per year.
It has invested in a range of cutting-edge manufacturing technology in Pegoh comparable to Honda operations in Japan. One of these technologies is "Laser Brazing," which generates a smooth and clean roofline for a slimmer body, coupled with Inner Frame Welding and Spray Polyurethane Foam.
Except for the CBU Odyssey MPV, HM's whole line of models is built in Melaka. The CKD models are the City, City Hatchback, Civic, Accord, BR-V, HR-V, and CR-V.
Honda has also held the No. 1 non-national passenger car place in Malaysia for the past eight years. Despite not producing commercial vehicles such as pick-up trucks and vans, the H brand has spent much of that time ahead of Toyota in the entire non-national market.
This is exceptional worldwide, demonstrating the brand's dominance in Malaysia.
Ms Chujo also stated that this would be her final appearance as HM's CEO during the ceremony, officiated by Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali. The new CEO of the company will be revealed soon.
