- Latest-Gen Honda Civic Patrol Cars For PDRM Spotted
By chance, we spotted this trailer on the road hauling a fleet of brand new FE-gen Honda Civic patrol cars for PDRM.
Whilst commuting to an assignment late yesterday afternoon, CariCarz.com chanced upon the sight of seeing a trailer-load of brand new Honda Civic sedans decked out in official Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) livery, likely enroute for delivery.
This is perhaps a sign that the service has begun adopting the latest FE-generation Civic into its fleet as patrol cars. Based on the marking these new patrol vehicles wore, they are set to begin serving in PDRM’s Selangor state and Kuala Lumpur city divisions.
The cars we spotted appeared to be primed with smaller-sized wheels, presumably 16-inches. This likely indicates that they were based on the E-grade guise of the C-segment 11th-gen saloon launched by Honda Malaysia back in Jan 2022.
This was perhaps expected given that back in June 2020, Honda Malaysia supplied PDRM with 427 units of said model’s predecessor (chassis code: FC) in similar fashion – all were based on said model’s 1.8S entry-level variant that was available at the time.
The smaller-sized (presumably 16-inch) wheels indicate that these patrol cars were based on the E-grade variant of the latest 11th-gen Honda Civic model.
This is undoubtedly an upgrade for PDRM. As a refresher, unlike higher-end variants slotted above that harnessed Honda’s 1.5-litre 4-cyl VTEC Turbo powertrain, the base variant FC-gen Civic made do with a less peppy naturally aspirated 1.8-litre i-VTEC 4-cyl petrol lump instead.
As a result, public perception of said fleet wasn’t great, more so given the fact that just less than a year earlier, Honda Malaysia gifted a number of higher-end turbocharged variants to the then Yang Di-Pertuan Agong’s fleet, which was also included one unit of the manic FK8-gen Civic Type R.
Hopefully, this won’t be the case with this latest acquisition as all variants of the 11th-gen Civic – barring the range-topping 2.0 e HEV RS and FL5 Type R variants – now come powered by said 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo heart that boasts respectable outputs of 182 PS (180 HP) and 240 NM.
Despite being paired with a CVT automatic box, the base variant FE-gen Civic did boast a respectable 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 8.3 seconds. At the same time, it also had an equally decent claimed fuel economy average of 6.0 litres/100 KM too.
Based on the marking it wears, these Civics are destined to serve in both the Selangor state and Kuala Lumpur city branches of PDRM.
However, don’t expect these PDRM units to deliver the same figures stated. That’s because we’re certain these patrol cars weigh heavier than the Civic 1.5E’s claimed 1,338 KG kerb weight figure – likely due to the additional police equipment and gear they’re now outfitted with.
At present, its unclear how many units of the latest FE-gen Civic will be supplied to PDRM. Nevertheless, this is certainly one upgrade many active duty PDRM officers will approve of.
