A Vanguard At Designing HyperCars, Koenigsegg Presents Its Asphalt Screamer, The Raw Concept

Known to be the vanguard of designing and manufacturing hypercars, Koenigsegg has manifested another asphalt screamer dubbed, the Raw.

Built by Koenigsegg’s sub-brand, Raw Design, hence the name, this supercar concept is claimed to be an “affordable” model and its first impression is truly a stunner to say the least.

Gawking at it, the Raw’s stylings appear to root from supercars of the '70s, like the Lamborghini Countach, Lancia Stratos Zero and the Ferrari Modulo, to name a few.

Although it derives inspiration from the classics, the wedge outlook and overall architecture of this machine is unlike anything else on the market today.

The Raw is categorized as a compact car, yet it still portrays a sense of strength and mass as its silhouette can be seen to focus mainly on aerodynamics.

Some of the exterior’s standout features include the double-bubble roof and the backward opening doors, in a reverse suicide fashion contrary to the regular dihedral helix doors.

Plus, this supercar also brandishes sharp LED lights and a massive adaptive diffuser that is boldly visible at the rear.

Completing its aggressive stance, the Raw’s wheels are also a seven-spoke standout with the spokes marginally distant from one another, displaying its clean insides.

Interior-wise, the concept’s cockpit is designed to fit three occupants. The pilot gets a central driving placement akin to the McLaren F1 and Gordon Murray T.50.

Fret not, as it’s due to be fitted with a small engine and carbon structure, the cabin was ensured to have enough space for the pilot and the other two occupants.

Inspired by racing simulator rigs, the front seat can be pushed forward. This places the pilot’s limbs deep inside the nose of the Raw, just like race drivers sit in their Formula 1 cars.

Performance-wise, it’s predicted to get a small, in-line, three-cylinder turbocharged engine, somewhat comparable to the one found in the Koenigsegg Gemera.

To paint a picture, the Gemera makes 590 hp and 601 Nm of torque from the engine alone, while fused with the electric motors, it goes all the way up to a monstrous 1,700 hp.

Notably, the Gemara’s engine by itself is the most powerful three-cylinder engine in the world, and it uses Koenigsegg's in-house developed Free-Valve technology.

However, at the current time, Koenigsegg still hasn’t confirmed any other particulars about the Raw’s engine or motor, except that it will be a small one.

On the other hand, with the future making a transition to EVs, it won't be a shock if Koenigsegg's entry-level supercar goes for the all-electric route.

Specifically, after National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), a Swedish-Chinese manufacturer acquired 20 percent of Koenigsegg in 2019.

That said, the production version of the RAW won’t likely look the same as the concept, but this future build from Koenigsegg is clearly something the company is ambitious about.
