An Untamed Energy That Captivates, Toyota Presents The GR Corolla RZ And Morizo Edition
Bringing more thrill to the Corolla enthusiasts out there, Toyota Gazoo Racing presents the GR Corolla RZ and GR Corolla Morizo Edition.
Both officially premiered yesterday, the GR Corolla RZ is the Japanese market trim level of the all-new GR Corolla unveiled in April.
While the GR Corolla Morizo Edition announced simultaneously in the United States, is a trim level developed by Toyota’s president Akio Toyoda, a.k.a. Morizo.
The RZ goes on sale this fall through Toyota dealers nationwide, and the Morizo Edition is available in limited quantities through GR Garage locations nationwide from this winter.
Unlike the RZ, taking the spotlight would be the Morizo Edition. So, let’s take a look at what it has to offer that differentiates itself from the Japanese trim.
First and foremost, no more rear seats. The Morizo Edition features a two-seater cabin, which provides weight reduction by approximately 30 kg.
Its maximum torque has been increased from 370 Nm to 400 Nm, and acceleration performance has been improved by increasing torque in the mid-rpm range.
Then, its body rigidity was further strengthened by applying an additional 3.3 metres of structural adhesive and adding body reinforcement braces.
Improved dynamic performance for better gear engagement through lower-geared differential gears and the use of closer ratios for the first, second, and third gears.
That’s not all, it also comes with high grip tires (245/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2), widened by 10 mm to improve cornering stability and braking performance.
Coming back to the seats, they are exclusive semi-buckets that hold the body firmly for accurate driving even under considerable g-forces due to improved driving performance.
Besides that, the door trim ornamentation, instrument panel, and others feature cast-black paint combined with an Ultrasuede upholstered steering wheel and centre console.
Lastly, its exterior colour is an exclusive Matte Steel, and on the front windshield as a nod to its creator, it bears Morizo's signature.
All in all, as per the Toyoda’s desires, the GR Corolla brightens the torch of making ever-better motorsports-bred cars, which focuses on honing cars to win races and being commercially available.
