The Toyota And Suzuki Alliance, First Hybrid Vehicle Production In India
Japanese auto giants, Toyota and Suzuki, rooted from a 2017 alliance, recently announced the commencement of their first hybrid vehicle production in India.
Slated in August, the two brands are set to work on the new venture at Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), which will begin with the production of a new SUV.
According to Suzuki's Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and TKM, the new vehicle will be sold in India under the Suzuki and Toyota brand names.
Plus, the new model will use mild-hybrid powertrains created by Suzuki and strong-hybrid powertrains built by Toyota.
Additionally, both the automakers intend to extend the new concept to markets outside of India, for instance, Africa.
The president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda said that the company is thrilled to launch the new SUV alongside Suzuki, a company that has a long history of local involvement in the Indian region.
He also stated that today's problems for the automotive sector include electrification and carbon neutrality. As such, the two brands aspire greatly to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Furthermore, reported by Business Standard, Suzuki's president Toshihiro Suzuki said producing the new SUV at TKM can help India flourish by meeting consumer demand for eco-friendly transport.
That said, Toyota and Suzuki anticipate that by combining their respective capabilities through this partnership, they would be able to provide the market with better options.
Notably, with a wide range of vehicle electrification technologies, which would contribute to India's rapid electrification and attainment of a carbon-neutral society.
