Uncaged Ahead Of Its Debut, Cadillac Previews Its Track-Stunner, The Project GTP Hypercar
Uncloaked ahead of its debut, slated to make its comeback at the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours, Cadillac presents the Project GTP Hypercar.
According to Cadillac, the hypercar will be racing in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the World Endurance Championship.
Notably, it will start in the IMSA’s elite GTP (Grand Touring Prototype) class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2023, where BMW, Acura, and Porsche are also said to compete.
At the helm of the Project GTP Hypercar representing the Cadillac name will be two of America’s top teams, Ganassi Racing and Action Express.
Outstandingly built, the hypercar’s design adheres to both form and function with nostalgic significance like the vertical fin-like tail lights.
Whereas, vertical blade-like LEDs in the front lighting elements are reminiscent of Cadillac’s road going cars.
Then, in terms of aerodynamics, it features a huge rear wing attached to a blade-like fin and flow-through fender parts that allow air to travel through efficiently at high speeds.
Speaking of which, the hypercar is said to harbor a new 670 hp dual-overhead cam 5.5-litre V8 engine and the LMDh hybrid system.
The Cadillac’s chassis is supplied by Dallara, one of four companies that manufacture chassis for the LMDh class. Following the regulations, the hypercar weighs at least 1,030 kg.
Cadillac’s lead exterior creative designer, Chris Mikalauskas, expressed, “The Project GTP hypercar is a unique convergence of form and function and showcases Cadillac’s future performance aesthetic.”
That said, Cadillac has won Daytona four times in a successful recent IMSA program that has also included three championship titles since returning to top-level sportscar racing in 2017.
