A New Challenger Juiced Up On E85 Fuel, Dodge’s Rumored 909 Hp Hellcat
It is known that Dodge’s electric replacement for the Challenger is slated for 2024, though before the reigning beast takes its exit, Dodge is rumored to have one more beast in the oven.
According to Mopar Insiders, Dodge is cooking up a high-horsepower Challenger Hellcat variant that will run on E85 fuel, a mixture that contains between 51 and 83 percent corn-based ethanol.
Additionally, the report furthered that the new Hellcat will also boost an output of up to a whopping 909 hp. Thus far, other technical details are unknown.
For comparison, the current standard Challenger Hellcat underpins a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 717 hp and 889 Nm of torque.
Whereas, the Hellcat Redeye juices up the output to 797 hp and 959 Nm, and the Hellcat Jailbreak, currently the most powerful variant on offer, produces 807 hp.
However, the Dodge Demon still holds the Challenger's all-time power title with 840 hp, only if the tanks are filled with 100-octane race fuel.
To elaborate, unlike race fuel, E85 isn't hard to find, a number of fuel stations carry this blend, especially in markets where corn is a major crop.
E85 is generally cheaper than traditional pump fuel, and is also extremely resistant to detonation, which is the cause of engine knock.
Meaning internal combustion engines can run more aggressive ignition timing in addition to adjusting other engine parameters, resulting in some impressive power and torque figures.
That said, if this rumor is true, Dodge’s new Challenger Hellcat will definitely be one to look out for. Maybe one to keep an ear out for even, knowing how beastly the roar of a Challenger is.
