Czech police turns seized Ferrari 458 into patrol car

Yes, what you see here is a mid-engined Italian supercar that’s been officially tasked as an active-duty police car. What’s interesting though is how police in the Czech Republic acquired this 2011 Ferrari 458 into its fleet – it was a vehicle it seized prior.

Officially announced by the Czech Republic police this week through a glitzy and highly produced YouTube video (posted above), the supercar now serves under the Czech Republic's Special Surveillance Department – an enforcement arm with nationwide jurisdiction – and driven by specially trained officers.

The service went on by saying that the supercar will be used "against the most aggressive drivers on Czech highways, when chasing stolen vehicles, or during surveillance at the locations of reported tuning events."

We are, after all, talking about a mid-engined Italian supercar with a 4.5-litre V8 that makes 562 HP and 540 NM capable of sprinting from nought to 100 KM/H in just 3.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 325 KM/H at least. Can you think of a better way for Czech police to use said supercar?

Despite confirming its acquisition through a seizure, Czech police didn’t go into details as how and why the Ferrari was seized. They did however confirm that the supercar sat in storage for about a decade when the seizure took place, boasting just under 2,000 KM on its mileage counter too.

Aptly, some modifications were performed to ensure this Ferrari 458 is fit for police duties. This included repainting it into the Czech police’s livery, the addition of lights and siren, as well as sleuth of tactical police kit such as speed radar gun, camera, communication equipment, and much more.

Of course, these gear came at a price, and it reportedly costed Czech police CZK340,000 (approx. RM62,527.49). This, by the way, excluded the service and restoration needed to bring this Ferrari back into running condition after its long-term storage, which reportedly costed an additional CZK130,000 (approx. RM23,907.57).

Amazingly, the total cost of converting this Ferrari 458 for official duty was still cheaper than buying one of their usual Skoda police cars. In other words, Czech criminals and errant speedsters may want to think twice should this police-run Ferrari pop up in their rear view mirrors…
