- Porsche is planning for a new high-end electric SUV
During the Capital Markets Day event held recently at Porsche's Research and Development Centre in Weissach, Germany, the renowned sportscar marque revealed its plan to produce a new high-end electric SUV offering.
CEO Oliver Blume stated that the Porsche portfolio will be expanded with an all-electric premium SUV that's slated to sit above the brand current Cayenne model.
However, no additional information was provided regarding this new high-end electric SUV plan, which will reportedly be built at the same factory as the upcoming Macan EV.
Looking ahead, Porsche expects its client base to include younger and more diverse customers from the next generation, with the number of women in this category expected to expand.
In addition to Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, Porsche also stated that it is focusing its global expansion largely on the United States and emerging markets. Currently, market regions such as Europe, North America, and China account for almost equal shares of Porsche's overall deliveries.
Porsche's announcement of an electrified luxury SUV is part of the company's appeal to investors ahead of its initial public offering (IPO) that's taking place in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Porsche's choice to pursue a very profitable niche is unsurprising and should not irritate purists if the business continues to produce its legendary sports cars.
According to an expert analysis, it shows that the luxury automobile industry will develop rapidly in the coming years, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) being key growth drivers.
Porsche may hit a winning shot by building an all-electric high-end SUV and using it to tap into a new market niche that might unlock enormous growth in the future.
