PROTON records the highest monthly sales in June.
PROTON moved 14,787 vehicles throughout June, marking its highest output of 2022 and the most since April 2021.
For the record, its performance increased by 51.0% from the month before, whereas total unit sales for the first half rose by 3.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, totalling 60,124 units. PROTON maintains its second place in the automotive industry with its current estimated market share of 22.6 percent.
The Proton X50 scored the highest monthly sales, with 4,473 units sold, thus allowing it to lead the B-segment SUV and overall SUV market spaces. The Proton X70, on the other hand, achieved its best performance in a 20-month period and maintained its position as the best C-segment SUVs with 2,969 units sold.

Crossover SUVs aside, the Proton Saga saw a total of 5,460 units sold, which in turn allowed it to snatch the lead in the A-segment sedan space with annual sales of 23,484 units. The Exora MPV offering stood as the fourth segment leader in June, maintaining its position at the top of the C-segment MPV class with 513 units sold. Not to be left out, both the Proton Persona and Proton Iriz duo stood third and fourth in their respective segments, with 1,224 and 421 units sold respectively.
“June was a busy month for the automotive industry with most brands trying to produce as many cars as possible to satisfy market demand. The announcement that SST incentives would be removed on 1 July also created a surge in bookings as customers rushed to take advantage of the savings offered,” explained Roslan Abdullah, PROTON’s Deputy CEO.
Roslan further notes that the brand received over 150,000 orders throughout the first six months of 2022. “When added to carry-over orders from 2021, we will need to work hard to deliver cars as quickly as possible to eager customers,” he continued.
Regarding the on-going parts shortage issues PROTON faces, Roslan also adds that the gradual resolutions to the situation not only boosted production, it also left a positive effect on the brand’s after sales network. “As promised, all our 3S/4S outlets now have three months stock of fast-moving parts (FMP) and this is replicated at our parts warehouse,” explained the exec.
Local market aside, PROTON is also seeing increased numbers with its overseas export efforts. June saw the marque export 636 vehicles in total, which adds to the 2,722 vehicles it exported throughout the first half of this year. This effort also marked an 81.2% increase from the same period last year, The total number of vehicles exported in June stood at 636 whilst the total number of exports in the first half of 2022 read at 2,722. Said effort marks an increase of 81.2% from the same month of the previous year.
Leading the charge here is the Proton Saga, which maintained its lead with 1,602 units exported, marking an increase of 78%. Not to be missed, both the Proton X70 and Proton X50 crossover SUVs also climbed the chart rapidly with total exports of 377 (X70) and 100 units (X50) in June, both of which recorded the highest export values to date here too.
As for individual markets, Pakistan remains PROTON’s largest export market with 1,770 units exported in the first half of 2022, marking an increase of 183 percent compared to the first half of 2021. Brunei and Bangladesh comes in second and third with 203 and 3194 units exported respectively.
“With the addition of new markets such as South Africa to our portfolio, we target for export volumes to continue on their current growth trajectory and form an even larger portion of our sales in the future,” added Roslan.
