- VW Golf R-Line price announced – From RM169,990 (RRP)
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) have officially announced the price for the VW Golf R-Line in Malaysia, and the figure reads at RM169,990.
Take note the RM169,990 figure is merely the recommended retail price (RRP). On-the-road, the Golf R-Line commands RM170,560 excluding insurance costs. Included in said figure is VPCM’s 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty and roadside assistance coverage plus a 3-year free maintenance program.
The announcement was made late last week, and it finally ends much speculation towards how much this new and now locally assembled (CKD) – a first for the Golf in Malaysia – C-segment hatchback commands.
Previewed locally back in October last year, the VW Golf R-Line is motivated by the VW brand’s signature 1.4-litre TSI 4-cyl turbo mill that supplies the front wheels with 150 HP and 250 NM via an Aisin 8-speed automatic – not its usual DSG twin-clutch box.
In R-Line form, the 8th-gen Golf gets a sporty exterior dressed with gloss black exterior accents, variant-specific exhaust tips and grille inserts, all of which to set it apart from its peppier GTI hot hatch twin. Other tasty bits here include 17-inch Valencia alloy wheels, automatic LED Plus headlamps with LED light bars connecting across the front VW badge, as well as LED taillights with dynamic turn signals.
On board, the VW Golf R-Line gets seats covered in fabric and suede-like sections of velour, as well as a distinct R logo embossed into the mid-section of the backrest. Two screens are present, those being a 10.25-inch digital dash display behind the wheel plus a 10-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit primed with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The latter screen also benefits with navigation function plus a seven-speaker audio system.
Other key bits present on board include a three-zone automatic climate control system, ambient cabin lighting, VW’s novel new touch-sensitive control panel interface plus capacitive steering wheel control buttons, keyless entry and ignition, an electronic parking brake, as well as four USB-C charging ports.
On the safety front, the VW Golf R-Line offers no less than six airbags with the presence of ABS and ESP, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchors. This being the entry-level ‘base model’ in the range, it makes do without any advanced driver assists such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Adaptive Cruise Control – there’s only a passive cruise control system present.
Yep, this may be the ‘base’ or entry-level offering in the line up, but we’re certain the sporty looks, as well as the high-tech and plush cabin ought to convince some of you into meeting its price tag.
