Arrivederci: Lamborghini Aventador production ends after 11-year run
Italian supercar marque Lamborghini marks the end of an era as its current V12 flagship, the Aventador, saw its final unit roll out of the factory in Sant’agata, Bologna this week. The final Aventador model built was an Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster dressed in a special shade of blue.
“The Lamborghini Aventador was a game-changer at its launch, and the flagship Lamborghini model for 11 years of production,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Said unit’s roll-out marked the end of an 11-year production span for the Aventador model which first began back in 2011. In total, Lamborghini sold 11,465 units of the Aventador across several variations, with said effort seeing the Aventador model outsell the sum total of all of Lamborghini’s past V12 flagships.
Notably though, this also marks the end of Lamborghini’s pure, naturally aspirated V12 sportscar lineage as the Aventador’s upcoming successor will adopt a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Set to debut later this year, it will act as a bridge before the famed raging bull marque goes full electric in the near future.
The final Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Roadster comes powered by Lamborghini’s signature 6.5-litre V12 mill that generates 769 HP and 720 NM, allowing it to sprint from standstill to 100 KM/H in just 2.8 seconds. Just 600 units (350 Coupes and 250 Roadsters) of this final run-out special were planned for production.
Besides that, the special blue paint it wears came courtesy of the brand’s Ad Personam customisation division. This is a fitting testament to the fact that 80% of all Aventadors sold reportedly featured some level of customisation, with Ad Personam successfully delivering over 200 bespoke trims and colours.
With the Aventador production’s end, all focus will now shift towards its aforementioned and still unnamed PHEV successor. A camouflaged prototype has been spotted undergoing road tests recently , which suggest that prospects wouldn’t have to wait too long to see it.
