Making Way For EVs, Ford Ends Production Of The Fiesta

More than 16 million units sold across seven generations, the Ford Fiesta has been one of Ford's most popular models since it was first introduced in 1976.

Though, after a 46-year successful reign, it seems like the Blue Oval brand’s B-segment hatchback may not get a new generation successor.

One of the main reasons it’s being discontinued is the increasing popularity of small SUVs, making the sales performance of small hatchbacks like the Fiesta plummet.

Also, Ford had formerly shortened the range of Fiesta models by halting the sale of the impractical three-door model due to declining sales figures.

As reported by Auto Express, Ford will stop its production in early mid-2023 to make way for the production of electric vehicles (EV) at the Cologne plant, Germany.

Ford’s representative said, "We are accelerating efforts towards electrification and are currently examining a portfolio of vehicles that align with our business strategy. We don't want to comment on speculation and will only share more information over the next few months.”

Speaking of which, the company previously confirmed that the Ford Puma compact SUV will be available in a full EV version by 2024.

It is said to share the same components as the Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier, and will be built at the same commercial vehicle plant in Craiova, Romania.

Plus, it is understood that there will be no plans for a fully electric version of the Fiesta, despite sharing the same Global B Small Car platform as the Puma.

All in all, apart from the Fiesta, the Ford Focus is also said to face the same fate by the end of 2025.
