An amount of MYR 35 million has been allocated by the Public Works Department (JKR), to add three new vehicle lanes on Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the two phases of road widening are expected to overcome the traffic congestion experienced by the surrounding residents for the past two weeks.

Notably, more than 100,000 users of the route have requested the authorities to widen the existing road which is very congested during peak hours.

Selangor’s Executive Council member (Exco) for Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry, Ir. Izham Hashim had this to say.

JKR will make a detailed technical report on the lane addition project, and the cost allocation will be submitted to the state government in the near future.

He remarked, "The first phase that needs to be expedited includes the addition of one lane on the road leading to Puncak Alam. We expect the first project to be implemented early next year before continuing with the second phase later.”

Izham also stated that the Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari route is a government reserve road and can accommodate six lanes in total.

"The hilly road after the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Perdana campus currently only has three lanes in both directions. For the time being, one lane of 800 meters will be built first before connecting with the other two lanes," he furthered.

Meanwhile, Kota Anggerik State Assembly Member, Najwan Halimi, said, the congestion issue has no relation to the opening of the new DASH Expressway that benefits the local population.

"Therefore, I hope the state government can speed up the road widening project for the comfort of the local residents. I urge users to be patient and give space to the responsible party to build a new lane," Najwan concluded.
