Vauxhall Reveals Its All-New Astra GSe And Astra Sports Tourer GSe
Presenting the soon to be launched first models from Vauxhall’s new electrified performance sub-brand, GSe, the all-new Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe.
Both models will feature Vauxhall’s advanced plug-in hybrid powertrains, offering the optimum balance between ride comfort, performance-oriented handling and ultra-low emissions.
Vauxhall’s acting managing director, James Taylor, remarked, “Available with plug-in hybrid powertrains from launch, the all-new Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe are the ideal cars for launching our dynamic new sub-brand, offering sporty styling, enhanced driving performance and all the benefits of an electrified powertrain. As we work towards becoming an all-electric brand by 2028, our range-topping GSe models will showcase that electrified performance and driving pleasure can go hand-in-hand.”
Performance-wise, both the Astra GSe and Astra Sports Tourer GSe have an impressive system power output of 222 Hp and maximum torque of 360 Nm.
Based on the WLTP standard, they have a combined fuel consumption of 256.8 to 235.4 mpg, and CO2 emissions of 26 to 25 g/Km.
Outstandingly, both models will match the best in their respective classes for launch from a standstill, acceleration and maximum speed.
Next, their performance-oriented handling comes from the chassis that is 10 mm lower than before, and delivers superior stability during cornering, under braking and at higher speed.
Also, a unique GSe suspension set-up, as well as unique steering calibration, offers more agile and precise handling characteristics.
Notably, the steering is sport calibrated, while the front and rear suspension’s unique springs and oil-filled dampers are specially tuned for dynamic driving and comfort.
The dampers feature KONI FSD (Frequency Selective Damping), which enables different damping characteristics at high frequencies (suspension control) versus low frequencies (body control).
Plus, the ESP settings are also exclusive to GSe models, with a higher activation threshold to match the dynamic driving behavior.
Aesthetic-wise, the new models exude a bold and modernized Astra design that has been accentuated with signature GSe styling cues.
Outside, they feature 18-inch light-alloy wheels inspired by the acclaimed, all-electric Manta GSe concept, specific front bumper and fascia, and GSe emblem on the tailgate.
Meanwhile, inside, the sporty ambitions are highlighted by the Alcantara-trimmed performance front seats that have been certified by AGR to provide optimal comfort and support.
That said, other specifications will be announced in due course. The vehicles will go on sale in the UK towards the end of the year with customer deliveries slated for early 2023.
