Volkswagen collabs with Liga Suparimau, boosting Malaysia’s youth football scene
Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) just announced a special collaboration with Liga Suparimau – Malaysia’s nationwide youth football league. This milestone partnership marks the German marque’s commitment in supporting the local grassroot football scene.
This collaboration is an initiative part of the group’s recently launched We Drive Football campaign. Said campaign sees the brand’s effort in promoting unity, diversity and passion that are synonymous with footballing way of life.
To kickstart the group’s effort in supporting the youth league, VPCM also announced ‘Goal of the Season’ competition. Taking place across Liga Suparimau’s 12 different categories, a winner will be selected from each of the said categories at the end of the season.
Volkswagen is no stranger in the footballing community globally, said Erik Winter, VPCM’s Managing Director. The group’s collaboration with Liga Suparimau is an excellent way for VPCM to stamp down their commitment and support in further growing the country’s grassroot football.
“The Volkswagen Group has championed football initiatives all over the world for many years, from being the official mobility partner of EURO 2020, to partnering with the German Football Association (DFB).
“Football is in our DNA, and our partnership with Liga Suparimau not only is in line with our involvement in footballing history but is also a great way to be a part of the local football sphere, grow the dreams of young Malaysian boys and girls and perhaps, discover the next Malaysian star.
The ‘Goal of the Season’ competition will be participated by over 500 teams across 12 different categories, with a winner from each category will be selected by the end of the season.
Launched back in Jan 2022, Liga Suparimau is Malaysia’s nationwide grassroot football league. Children aged from 5 to 17 all participated in different league categories. The league’s objective is to provide consistent competition and opportunities for youth footballers across the country by 2024.
