- Audi Introduces New Logo Design
As the refreshed Audi Q8 E-Tron range debuted earlier last week, it not only brought a host of light visual and technical changes, it was also where Audi quietly introduced its new logo design as well. A closer look revealed that the famed four-ringed design has undergone quite the makeover indeed.
For starters, unlike past iterations, the new four-rings logo is now flatter as Audi have opted to go for a two-dimensional (2D) design. This ensures the logo and emblems are kept consistent across multiple mediums, covering digital screens to front grill emblems.
According to Audi designer Andre Georgi, the new logo is “significantly more modern” than past designs. The concept of a 2D Audi logo isn’t new as it dates back to 2016. However, this notion only took off properly in 2020 as the German automaker began rethinking its corporate identity and decided that the famed four rings should look the same everywhere.
Not only flatter, the new logo also rids away with any chrome, opting instead for a high-contrast monochrome (black-and-white) motif that actually adds a three dimensional (3D) touch. Nevertheless, Audi will still allow customers to get the new rings in black, with this revamped variation replacing the bright white with a dark grey.
Notably, Audi’s new logo introduction also coincides with the brand's move at standardising the font it uses – dubbed ‘Audi Type’ – inside and out. We want our quality to speak through the design and the product itself,” added Georgi about this too.
Of course, Audi isn’t the first and only carmaker to attempt at creating a consistent branding in the new digital era where screens dominate our daily lives. Parent company Volkswagen, sister brands Skoda, as well as rivals such as BMW, Nissan, Kia, Peugeot, GM, Buick, and many more have revamped their logo designs using flatter, 2D elements too.
