Ferrari Purosangue Order Books Closes With Up To Two-Year Wait Time

Fabled Italian marque Ferrari is one of the last and latest amongst the big supercar brands to enter the burgeoning luxury performance SUV market space through its groundbreaking new Purosangue. If anything, the Italian marque has finally upped the ante over rivals like the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, and the Bentley Bentayga, amongst many others.

Now, if the latest word is anything to go by, the Purosangue doesn’t just stand at being one of the most powerful and most expensive, it’s poised to become the most exclusive of the bunch too. That’s because Ferrari have reportedly stopped accepting orders for the V12-powered super-SUV, with some customers facing wait times of up to two years too.

Speaking with Australian site Drive, Ferrari’s chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera said, “It's no secret that we stopped taking orders. We had such an interest without delivering one single car.” He also noted further on how that decision was consistent with the positioning of the Ferrari brand and the model itself.

When it debuted, Ferrari clearly stated that it will limit the Purosangue to just 20% of its total output, or just 1 out of 5 Ferraris sold. This allows Ferrari to stay true to its image as a sportscar maker instead of a SUV-driven brand as how rivals like Porsche, Aston Martin, and Lamborghini have become –  their respective SUVs make up more than half of their total annual outputs now.

At this point, it’s unclear as to when Ferrari will re-open orders for the Purosangue model which, ironically, Ferrari still adamantly refuses to admit and call an SUV. Perhaps, given that it packs a manic 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 heart lifted from the 812 Superfast/GTS that outputs 715 HP and 716 NM plus the ability to dispatch 0-100 KM/H in just 3.3 seconds, perhaps we’ll let this argument slide for a bit.

Besides the Purosangue, CariCarz.com has also learned that, locally, the order books for the brand’s other existing models are also filled for the next year or so. Speaking with representatives from both Ferrari Malaysia and Ferrari Asia Pacific at a recent track driving event, we can confirm that the brand will only accept new orders on the 296 GTB/GTS PHEV twins only.

CariCarz.com also learnt that, despite the shift to ramp up annual production output to 15,000 annually, Ferrari has amassed a staggering 40,000 orders in waiting already. Perhaps this fact is also what’s leading the brand’s Malaysian outfit to focus its sales efforts primarily on the 296 GTB/GTS, as well as its selection of official pre-owned models.

In short, if you’ve been eyeing to place an order for a brand new Ferrari anytime this year that’s not a 296 GTB/GTS, you’d probably won’t be able to. Instead, you’d probably have better luck in perhaps acquiring an official pre-owned Ferrari model instead through Ferrari Malaysia right now.

Alternatively, you can also check out the selection of Ferrari models (both Used and Recon) that’s currently listed for sale on CariCarz.com right now. Highlights include things like the SF90 Stradale, 812 Superfast, as well as the 488 Pista and 488 GTB.
