Honda Prelude set for revival as an EV soon?

The Honda Prelude coupe, last produced in 2001, might make a comeback as an electric vehicle (EV) if rumours coming out of the Land of The Rising Sun are to be believed. According to a Japan-based source, Honda could launch the new and electrified Prelude as early as 2028 even.

The same source alludes that this plan was already teased in Honda’s ‘EV Roadmap’ detailed back in April this year. Included in that were two sportscars, which includes what many have reported to be the all-electric successor to the NSX – something hinted by Honda US sub-brand Acura very recently.

Naturally, the same source alleges that the second sports coupe teased here will be an all-electric successor to the Prelude, but this remains to be seen. Officially, Honda had previously stated that one of these sportscar models will be a specialty model, and the other a flagship. Notably, Honda also noted that both will be marketed globally as well.

The Prelude coupe, last seen rolling off the line in 2001, has been in production across five generations since 1978. It was a two-door coupe loosely based on the Accord platform, but its production came to an end when it was replaced by the fourth-gen Integra (DC5) model which served as Honda’s sporty coupe offering in most global markets.

Sportscar revival rumours aside, what is certain is that Honda will be churning out a range of affordable EVs throughout the second half of the 2020s. Honda will reportedly have a total of 30 EVs in its global range by 2030, plus a touted production output of more than 2 million units annually too.
