- “Interchange At MRR2 To Ease Traffic” – Kepong Residents
Residents of TAMAN Daya in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, ask the authorities to reconsider their proposal to relieve traffic congestion on the Selayang-Kepong Highway by constructing an interchange connecting to the Middle Ring Road 2. (MRR2).
According to residents, rising traffic on the Selayang-Kepong Highway has made daily traffic congestion unpleasant.
During peak hours, the Selayang-Kepong Highway now takes more than an hour to get to Kuala Lumpur.
For the record, the residents first proposed an interchange in 2014, but it was rejected.
In a written response, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that the congestion was caused by a long line of vehicles at traffic signals along the Selayang-Kepong Highway.
According to him, the extended queue time demonstrated the huge volume of vehicles and that the traffic situation worsened after the T-junction was converted to a cross-junction.
To solve the issue, the ministry considered building a 300m-high flyover on top of MRR2, however this would incur considerable land acquisition expenditures on a narrow location.
The traffic signals' queue time was changed as a temporary measure.
Residents stated that they would continue to write to the Works Ministry regarding the exchange.
