Perodua Celebrates Breaching The 200,000 Sales Mark Year To Date

Perodua has recently passed the 200,000 sales mark, registering in total 222,203 vehicles between January and October this year. On a year-to-date basis, registration for Perodua cars increased 51.2% from 146,951 units sold in the same period in 2021.

This fits perfectly in-line with their 2022 target announcement back in January this year of having 247,800-unit registration. With only two months left the target looks highly achievable.

According to Perodua President and CEO Dato' Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, "There was a sales gap between June and August of last year due to the government's lockdown to contain Covid-19 cases. Moving forward, we expect the registration momentum to continue until the end of the year”.

Perodua sold 25,849 units in October 2022, a 5% increment over the 24,626 units sold in September 2022. The top three Perodua models sold in October were the ever popular Bezza (6,768 units), Myvi (6,130 units), and Axia (4,989 units).

Perodua had managed to produce 22,974 vehicles in October, bringing the total number of vehicles produced this year to 229,811 between January and October. "Looking ahead, we plan to increase our production and sales volume as we try to exceed our previously set sales target for 2022, reducing the waiting period for our customers," Dato' Sri Zainal said.

He also stated that the higher-than-expected production and sales performance has benefited the local automotive ecosystem, as 95% of Perodua parts are sourced locally. "In fact, Perodua's high localisation rate has helped shield it from the current volatility in the foreign exchange market. We intend to further improve the local automotive supply chain because having such an industry has proven to be beneficial to both Perodua and consumers," Dato' Sri Zainal added.
