- Proton exceeds sales targets for 2022

Capitalising on the post-pandemic economic boom, national carmaker Proton enters the final quarter of 2022 on a high note after exceeding its sales targets for the year.
According to the firm, its October sales efforts, which totalled at 13,013 units for both domestic and export sales, has pushed its total sales figure for 2022 up to 115,366 units. Said figure sees Proton surpass its total 2021 sales volume of 114,708 units with little over two months left in the year.
This achievement sees Proton’s Year-To-Date (YTD) sales rise by 33.6% for the first 10 months of the year, and the firm expects this figure to continue growing within the remaining two months of 2022. Altogether, these efforts also mark Proton’s best sales results since 2014.

Leading this charge are both of Proton’s key SUV offerings – the X50 and X70. Both models have contributed significantly to the sales figures mentioned, with the X50 accounting for 3,602 units delivered in October alone. Additionally, with 33,193 units delivered throughout the year, the title of ‘Malaysia’s Best-Selling Car’ bestowed upon it in July this year is aptly justified.
Not to be missed out is the X50’s bigger sibling, the X70. A total of 1,391 units were delivered in October, thus contributing to its 15,536 units delivered throughout the year. Combined, both the X50 and X70 saw 48,729 units delivered thus far in 2022.

Despite their contributions, both SUV models’ sales figures still pale in comparison against the Saga model. Said entry-level sedan remains Proton’s best-selling model overall with 5,262 units delivered in October, bringing its 2022 total sales up to 45,965 units up until this point of 2022.

Local market aside, Proton Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah also keenly noted the firm’s growing overseas export efforts. October 2022 saw Proton export 416 units overseas, bringing its current 2022 tally to 4,741 units – the firm’s best export performance since 2013. Fuelling this was the Saga, which accounts for 2,106 units, followed by the X70 which saw 1,608 units exported so far this year.
Moving forward, Proton looks set to keep its momentum going through to the end of 2022. According to Roslan again, Proton will mark the X70 model’s fourth anniversary through a series of special deals throughout this month. “We are offering customers gifts comprising accessories worth RM1,499, interest rates as low as 2.52% and many other surprises from our dealerships,” said the exec.
