Police are hunting for five motorcyclists who were seen in a viral video impeding traffic along a Senawang crossroads to allow a convoy of eight cars thought to be political party supporters to drive through when the light was red.

When they committed the offence at the Taman Desa Dahlia junction, the five "traffic marshals" were also seen holding a political party flag.

The incident occurred at 6.47 p.m. on November 7, according to state police chief Dep Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof, and the 33-second video has since gone viral.

"By impeding traffic, they put other road users' safety at risk."

"We are now on the lookout for all offenders, including the car drivers," he stated.

DCP Dzaffir stated that "traffic marshals" who impeded and controlled traffic could face fines under Section 21 (1) of the Police Act.

Offenders may be penalised under Section 94 of the same Act, which carries a fine of up to RM500 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, if convicted.

According to DCP Dzaffir, the offenders might also be charged under Section 79(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for failing to obey traffic signs and directions.

They might be fined between RM300 and RM2,000 for this.

"We would like to advise all political parties not to violate traffic rules while campaigning and to always strictly adhere to all other existing laws," he added
