U.S. Automakers Reduce Production By 79,000 Vehicles This Week, Report Says
The persistent worldwide semiconductor scarcity has been pissing in the Wheaties of the whole automotive sector for the past two years and shows no signs of slowing down. According to a story published on Sunday by Automotive News Canada, it has caused US automakers to restrict output by 79,000 vehicles just this week.
The total output drop projected by North American vehicle manufacturers in 2022 is closer to 400,000, which helps to explain the continued issues with price gouging on new models because dealers can't get their hands on them.
Interestingly, it appears China has managed to avoid the chip shortage this year, which makes sense given how many chips are produced there. Will this make it easier to obtain a Chinese-made vehicle, such as a Polestar 2 or a Buick Envision, in the United States? Most likely not.
