- Porsche Sets A Sales Record In 2022 Amidst EV Drop
Despite a drop in electric vehicle deliveries due to supply chain issues, Porsche set a new sales record in 2022.
The German automaker joins a group of luxury automakers that includes Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and Bentley, all of which have had their best year ever.
Porsche delivered 309,884 vehicles worldwide, a 3% increase from 2021.
The United States was its second-largest market after China, with a regional record of 70,065 sales. The Cayenne SUV was the best-selling model worldwide, ahead of the smaller Macan SUV, though their positions were reversed in the United States. According to Porsche, the electric Taycan outsold the Panamera, but sales fell 16% to 34,801 due to supply chain issues.
One of them was a limited supply of Ukrainian-made wiring harnesses as a result of Russia's invasion of the country.
Porsche was also impacted by the loss of 340 cars on the Felicity Ace cargo ship, which caught fire and sank in the Atlantic in March, with many of them having to be replaced by new builds.
"What a year! Twelve months that provided challenges linked to industry-wide supply chain issues, but also a year that presented many more opportunities, resulting in a new record that surpassed expectations," Kjell Gruner, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, said in a press release.
