Fifth-gen Toyota Prius Adds New Details, Boasts 69 km EV range
Given its improved appearance and interior design, technology, and performance, the 2023 Toyota Prius represents a substantial development for Toyota's flagship hybrid vehicle.
Following its recent launch, the redesigned Prius PHEV will most likely receive a new lithium-ion battery pack with a 69 km EV range and a solar roof that can also be utilised to generate electricity while driving. Aside from that, the fifth-gen Prius could produce up to eight kilometres of EV range every day.
The PHEV variant is distinguished by the presence of a solar charging system capable of generating enough power to cover 1,250 kilometres of driving per year. Rides on 19-inch wheels, the fifth-gen Prius offers 50 mm lower, 22 mm wider and 46 mm shorter than before, with a 50 mm longer wheelbase.
To recap on the powertrain, the 2023 Toyota Prius has a 2.0-litre 4-cyl petrol mill, as well as 13.6 kWh battery pack, with the electric motor that churns out 223 PS total system output (164 kW). Now that it has increased output, the Prius accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds which previously noted to 11.1 seconds.
In terms of safety, the Prius Toyota Safety Sense system now includes an improved front camera with twice the forward detection capabilities as before, as well as a larger lateral and vertical vision.
This enables the camera to detect close items sooner while also identifying a broader range of potential risks, such as roadside objects. Radar sensors have also been installed on the front side portion to enable the features of the pre-collision system, lane trace assist, and front cross-traffic alert.
With steering and braking assistance supplied by the Obstacle Anticipation Assist system, the new Proactive Driving Assist alerts and assists the driver. The Prius, on the other hand, detects the future road direction and adjusts the power steering intensity to aid in smoother handling.
Toyota has yet to publish any pricing information for the 2023 Toyota Prius. However, compared to the 2023 Prius Prime which is the current model starting at approximately around RM 131 K ($29,865), perhaps you can share with us your opinion on that.
