Johor Bahru LRT - CRRC Recommends Nylex To Opt For Straddle Monorail System
According to Edge Markets, Nylex (Malaysia) Bhd is proposing to enter into talks with China-based CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co Ltd about the construction of a light rail transport (LRT) system in Johor Bahru. The group also announced that in March, the LRT project will be linked to the railway shuttle link line currently being built from Singapore to Johor Bahru Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link).
Furthermore on March 21, Nylex signed a heads of agreement with Sinar Bina Infra Sdn Bhd, LBS Bina Group Bhd, BTS Group Holdings Public Company Ltd, and its parent company Ancom Nylex Bhd to collaborate on the construction and operation of the Johor Bahru LRT system.
The RTS Link project, which will be an integrated property development based on "transit-oriented development," is subject to the completion of an ongoing feasibility study and the grant of the concession award by the Johor government. The RTS Line comprises a 4KM link connecting Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru to Woodlands, Singapore will have its own immigration checkpoints and serve up to 10,000 passengers an hour.
Nylex announced in a stock market filing on Wednesday (Dec 14) that it has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with CRRC Changchun, a unit of CRRC Corp Ltd, as part of its efforts to complete its feasibility study. According to the LOI, CRRC Changchun agrees to take on the project as a turnkey contractor and recommends using the straddle monorail system.
