During the launch of the latest EV charging hub by Gentari and EV Connection (EVC) at Bangi Golf Resort yesterday (14 Dec), acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Green Mobility Officer Gentari Sdn Bhd, Shah Yang Razalli reiterated that the establishment of Gentari is to offer low carbon solutions through three main cores being Renewable Energy, Hydrogen and Green Mobility.

“Gentari by 2030 plans to have in hand a renewable energy capacity of between 30-40 GW and supply up to 1.2 million tons of clean hydrogen per year”.

Now in the Green Mobility arena, Gentari goal is to have a 10% controlling stake by setting in place 25,000 charging facilities across Asia Pacific to support the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. In the closer term however, the aims are to install 9,000 public charging facilities by 2026, beginning in Malaysia and India.

Through Gentari’s collaboration with EVC, there are now 140 EV charging facilities mobilised in 20 locations in Malaysia of which 33 are conveniently located in urban areas and highways.

Furthermore, Gentari's Vehicle-as-a-Service (VaaS) program has deployed 400 vehicles in Malaysia and India which have travelled 2-million kilometres resulting in a 166.8-tonne carbon emission reduction.

Shah further added that Gentari and EVC’s aim is to reduce EV users' range anxiety and focus on providing charging hubs along highways and urban areas to meet the ever growing user need as the society switches to this sustainable mode of transportation. Furthermore, with their newly introduced kWh based payment module, the entire transaction becomes more fair and users friendly.

At the moment, the pairing of Gentari and EVC operates this kW based payment system at 2 of its facilities licensed by the Malaysian Energy Commision. The first, X Park Sunway Serene facility hosts 1 unit of the Asia Pacifics 1st 350kW DC super-charger (RM1.20 per/kWh), 2 units of DC fast chargers (RM1 per/kWh) and 5 units of AC chargers (RM0.55 per/kWh). The second facility was recently launched at the Bangi Golf Resort which houses the nations first slim satellite “style” 200kW Kempower 4-gun DC fast chargers (RM1 per/kWh), 3 regular DC fast chargers outlet (RM1 per/kWh) and 4 units of AC chargers (RM0.55 per/kWh).

The Kempower satellite chargers installed would prove to be a game changer perfect for highway usage as it required very little space and its spring suspended charging gun makes it easy for all users. The best part of these chargers is its ability to regulate power between the vehicles plugged in by taking into account the vehicles state of charge (SOV).

In his speech Shah Yang Razalli also mentioned there has to be more cooperation among industry colleagues, policy makers, government agencies, customers and partners to contribute expertise and support to formulate policies and carry out advocacy work.

He added “For example, given that the electric vehicle landscape in Malaysia is still in its infancy, close collaboration between various parties through the EV Taskforce and ZEVA has contributed to a more conducive ecosystem to increase the use of sustainable transport, supported by effective and viable infrastructure development”.

Given the above, Gentari and EVC will strive to work closely with all parties directly involved such as Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysian Highways Authority, PLUS and local authorities to ensure a more efficient process in setting up more charging facilities.
