To reduce traffic congestion during the Chinese New Year period, the Transport Ministry has announced a road ban for goods-carrying vehicles on January 20, 21, 24, and 25. The ban, it said in a statement on Friday (Jan 13), would reduce the risk of traffic accidents. "This ban is in effect due to the significant increase in traffic, particularly for private vehicles returning to their hometowns. Along with this road ban, the national speed limit reduction order will be enforced "According to the statement, Bernama reported.

The speed limit on federal and state roads will be reduced by 10kph. The speed limit on federal roads will be reduced from 90kph to 80kph, while state roads will be reduced to 70kph from the usual 80kph.
