This Modified Honda Step WGN Campervan Looks Cooler Than It Sounds

The latest sixth-gen Honda Step WGN mini MPV stands as a perfect base for numerous modifications, even as a campervan. In fact, Japanese tuner White House has done just that recently, and the result speaks for itself.

Set to debut at this year’s Japan Camping Car Show, White House’s latest effort sees it furnishing the sixth-gen Step WGN with a pop-up roof tent, swivel seats, as well as a fully-equipped kitchenette into what’s already renowned as a rather versatile and practical interior.

Part of White House’s “Deck One” camper series, the tuner has christened this build as the “Pop Joy” thanks to its pop-up roof tent. Said feature increases the height of the mini MPV to 2,045 MM, but it retains the simple lines of the Step WGN’s original design, blending seamlessly with the bodywork when closed. When opened up, the pop-up tent has room for a double bed measuring 1,880 X 1,030 MM.

Speaking of beds,  the seats on board this Step WGN have the ability to fold flat to create a second one. Combined with the aforementioned pop-up roof tent, this Step WGN can easily allow up to four adults, or two adults and two children, to sleep in. This ability is nifty indeed, especially for families on adventurous vacation road trips, for instance.

Moving to the back and of the cabin and White House also maximised whatever space available to create a fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave oven, a gas stove burner, a portable fridge, tiny sink, an extra storage bin, and a sliding kitchen countertop that can double up as a dining table. Adding to this too are front passenger seats that can swivel 180-degrees.

Apart from the camper-van modification, White House has left the Honda Step WGN mechanically unchanged. In Japan, this popular mini-MPV from Honda is offered with either a 1.5-liter VTEC 4-cyl petrol  or a 2.0-liter e:HEV hybrid petrol-electric powertrain choices, as well as the option between rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivelines.

As for price, the Honda Step WGN “Popjoy” commands between ¥3,592,600 (approx. RM116,609) and ¥6,044,500 (approx. RM 196,193), depending on the variant and grade of the donor base vehicle. Are you digging this adventurous redux of perhaps one of the coolest and perhaps most versatile and practical Honda mini MPVs around? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
