Meet the BR75 SUV Adventure Camper. Built by Direct Cars in Japan, it’s based on the Toyota Hilux GR Sport dual-cab pick-up truck, which has been transformed into a full-fledged motorhome that’s ready for life off the grid.

As far as looks go, Direct Cars has done well with designing the rear add-on, which appears to integrate well with the base Hilux GR Sport’s design - not an easy feat given that this is arguably the sportiest and most rugged iteration of said venerable pick-up truck model by Toyota.

Besides the regular-sized door on the side and the large tailgate, access to the living area can is also possible from the Hilux’s cabin thanks to a special step-through modification. This means occupants don’t have to exit the vehicle to move back and forth, thus making it nifty and ideal, especially in bad weather or at night.

Life inside the rear compartment is pretty luxurious thanks to the wood panels, the tile-style floor, and the interior lighting present. A key feature here too is the large dining area provided by a foldable table and two seating benches. Adding to that is a pop-up portion of the roof that allows occupants to stand up fully or provide more natural light inside.

By the way, the dining area easily converts into a double bed measuring 2,300 MM long that is suitable for adults. There’s also a second fold-out bed measuring 1,660 MM long that can be deployed above the vehicle’s cabin, making room for two children. There is also a window on each side, and plenty of storage compartments above them.

Interestingly, the living area is also equipped with a full-size home air conditioning system, which allows users to maintain the optimum temperature independently of the weather conditions. And before you ask, the external unit for said air conditioning is neatly hidden under the rear bumper. All the amenities can be controlled by a tablet-style touch panel.

Lastly, the vehicle also comes with a second room at the back primed with a shower head, waterproof floor with a drain, sink, mirror, slide-out counter table, and extra storage compartments. This small room is accessible from both inside and outside the vehicle, while the waterproof floor means you can store wet or dirty clothing and equipment.

The BR75's ability to maintain all of those features while off the grid is an advantage. This is made possible by a sizable 200Ah secondary battery that can be charged both while driving and by the roof-mounted 200W solar panels.

Apart from that, there’s also a 45-litre drain tank, a 20-litre clean water tank, and an 85-litre water tank all included with the vehicle. There’s also two external power outlets at the back of the living area in addition to the outlets inside for various electronic devices.

In terms of pricing, Direct Cars has tagged the full-spec model based on the Hilux GR Sport at US$95,121 (approx. RM409,686). Those on a budget can opt for one build based on the Hilux Z variant priced at US$83,931(approx. RMRM361,490). Said figures don’t include other extras like the off-road wheels and tyres pictured.

Would you be ready for off-the-grid adventures or in this pick-up truck-based motorhome, then?
