Will Mercedes-Benz Discontinue Wagons, CLS, And Coupe Models?

It appears that Mercedes-Benz is set to axe a number of models, perhaps as a means to simplify its already complicated model range variations. Key offerings set to be dropped include its CLS four-door coupe range, a number of coupes, as well as its wagon (or estate, if you prefer) models.

This follows up from earlier reports online that both the C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, along with the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, will get streamlined into a pair of CLE models instead. Likely the first to get axed by year-end is the marque’s CLS four-door coupe, followed closely by the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe by the middle of the decade - circa 2025.

As for its wagons (estates), Rumours online indicate that the E-Class Estate that launches next year 2024 will be the last of its kind. The marque will allegedly stop selling wagons (estates) altogether by 2030, likely  implying that both the C-Class Estate and CLA Shooting Brake will get axed later on too. The latter is believed to get a next-gen model later this decade and bow out without a successor when its production run ends.

On a different note, Mercedes looks set to introduce the newest iterations of the GLC and GLE Coupe models, which are thought to be the final ones. Currently, there are 33 body types available, but only 14 will remain.

While some of these Benz models may soon become extinct, the news isn’t all bad as more AMGs are on the way. Aptly, Mercedes wants to expand its line of Maybach products and may even produce a posh V-Class minivan. Reports online further suggest new models will be added into the line-up too, such as a double-cab G-Class pickup, a 300 SL Gullwing revival, and a "racy speedster" built on the SL platform.

Lastly, although the exact date is still unknown, it appears that they will be phased out when the current generation of models reaches the end of their respective production spans.
