GWM Malaysia Presents Ora Good Cat To MITI

Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia announced today that it has initiated a collaboration with the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Part of the effort sees the firm presenting said ministry with a single unit of its much lauded Ora Good Cat electric vehicle (EV) that was launched locally in Nov last year.

Present to handover the EV from GWM Malaysia to MITI were Great Wall Motor’s ASEAN region president Elliot Zhang. Receiving it for MITI was the ministry’s Secretary General YB Datuk Seri Isham Ishak. More specifically, the ministry was given the 500 Pro variant, which promises up to 500 KM in range on a single charge.

“GWM's collaboration with the Malaysian government is a clear example of how public-private collaborations can drive the growth and adoption of sustainable transportation solutions,” expressed GWM Malaysia through a press release issued earlier today.

In MITI’s hands, said battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be tasked with a series of test-drives over the next few months. This is aimed at granting the ministry, as well as other government bodies, a much better grasp and understanding of BEVs such as the Ora Good Cat.

According to GWM, this gesture also demonstrates the brand’s commitment towards promoting sustainable transportation solutions. Additionally, with the Ora Good Cat engineered to be future-proof, it’s poised to assist the Malaysian government in their efforts and plans towards the status of a carbon-neutral nation by 2054.

Additionally, GWM Malaysia notes that it has formulated a local strategy aimed towards supporting Malaysia's transition from fuel-energy vehicles to energy-efficient vehicles. This is part of bigger plans by the firm to launch more hybrids (HEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) in the market.

Moreover, the firm also aspires to provide more convenient EV charging infrastructure. GWM Malaysia elaborates that it is presently working to establish a network of EV charging stations that are easily accessible and convenient for consumers to alleviate any concerns potential customers may have.

On sale since Nov 2022, the GMW Ora Good Cat comes in two variants - a 400 Pro and a higher-specced 500 Pro. The latter features a  63.1 kWh battery as opposed to the former’s 47.1 kWh unit. Promising up to 400 KM and 500 KM in range respectively, they are priced from RM139,800 and RM169,800.
