Honda And LG Breaks Ground For New American EV Battery Plant
Japanese automaker Honda officially formed an alliance with LG Energy Solution (LGES) to set up a new EV battery plant in Jeffersonville, Ohio.
With an investment of US$3.5 billion (RM15.7 billion) in the new facility, the effort is projected to achieve up to US$4.4 billion (RM19.7 billion).
The 2 million square foot facility aims to have 40 GWh of annual production capacity which the plant is poised to embark on mass production of pouch-type lithium-ion batteries by 2025. In turn, these will then be supplied exclusively to Honda North America factories.
Honda announced its intention to start EV production and sales in North America based on the new Honda e:Architecture in 2026.
Aside from having an agreement with General Motors, the marque also included its mission for BEVs and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to embody 100% of vehicle sales by 2040.
