Rapid Rail Suspends LRT Operations At Six Stations, Starting April 2

Rapid KL recently announced that six stations on the Ampang – Sri Petaling LRT line will be suspended starting this Sunday onwards (April 2, 2023).

According to the train service operator, the procedures require six Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations on the Ampang-Sri Petaling line which involves the Bandaraya, Sultan Ismail, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Titiwangsa, Sentul and Sentul Timur stations to be halted.

This issue also derives from a damaged track that happened between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya stations which was reported earlier in January. From there, it affects the connection to other stops on this LRT line.

It further added that said suspension was due to the trains used for services between Bandaraya and Sentul Timur stations no longer meet the operational criteria and deemed to be taken out of service for safety reasons.

"This is following the structural and runway damage near the Bandaraya LRT station, which has resulted in trains not being able to return to the Ampang LRT Depot to undergo maintenance works since Jan 27,'' RapidKL said in a statement.

Thus, Rapid KL agrees to provide five train stations that will be operating between Bandaraya – Sentul Timur stations after the division from the rest of the Ampang – Sri Petaling LRT line.

To smooth the journey of affected users, Rapid Rail offers free LRT 13 and LRT 14 Express Bus services starting Sunday in addition to the existing LRT 11 bus service.

A total of 40 bus units will be provided with an operating frequency of between 10 to 15 minutes during peak hours depending on the current traffic conditions.

Meanwhile, do take note that the LRT 9 (Hang Tuah LRT – City LRT) and LRT 10 (Masjid Jamek LRT – City LRT) bus services will be terminated from Sunday (April 2, 2023).

As another alternative of transportation, those who plan to go to Hang Tuah may take the Monorail from Titiwangsa, while those heading to Chan Sow Lin may use the Putraya MRT line also through Titiwangsa.
