- Honda S2000 Type-R Imagined, A Type-R That Honda Never Went Around Making.
Evasive Motorsports rendition of the Honda S2000 Type-R
Restomod - By definition a process where restoration is performed on an older/classic vehicle, however in the process of restoration, modern day parts and technology is incorporated to improve on the vehicles performance greatly all while retaining its original appeal.
The Honda S2000, was one of Honda’s iconic offerings to the world of open-top roadsters with a highly desirable front engine rear wheel drive setup. This inexpensive roadster was supposed to slot itself into the segment that was dominated by Mazda’s MX-5.
Heavily reworked exterior keeping up with time
Production for the S2000 ran from 1999 right up to 2009, and was offered with 2 engine options in some markets at once which were the AP1 and AP2 with the former being powered by a 2 litre naturally aspirated power plant while the later a 2.2 litre.
During the entire time, the S2000 was never offered in a Type-R variant where the closest to that badge was the S2000 Club Racer (CR). That is until folks at Evasive Motorsports decided to put their spin on what would have been the best approach towards Type-R’ing a S2000.
Newer generation Honda K20C1 powerplant replaces the F20/22C
One of the key element mod made in this restomod that might make some purist cringe would be the choice to replace the iconic 9000RPM high revving F-series motor for that of the newer turbocharged Type-R, the K20C1. Just by doing this, Evasive had bumped up the power output of the S2000 to 306 HP with a torque of 400Nm, channelled to the S2000’s original short throw transmission with uprated OS-Giken limited-slip differential.
Aesthetic upgrades consist of a 20th Anniversary Edition front bumper, S2000R carbon-fibre front lip, wider front fenders, rear bumper extensions, a carbon-fiber roll-over cover, carbon-fibre hood and trunk. A set of carbon-fibre rear spoilers almost similar to those found on the S2000 CR and a pair of Spoon aero-shaped side mirrors pretty much ties all the external body works together painted in the ever iconic Honda Championship White.
AVS Wheels mated to Yokohoma AD09 tyres and Brembo brakes
This gorgeous restomod is outfitted with a set of Yokohama AD09 rubbers and 18-inch EVS Tuning 52R wheels, as well as custom Evasive chassis works and KW Clubsport coilovers. Brakes were also beefed with Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers. The S2000R further houses plenty of carbon fibre and alcantara trimming inside which includes a pair of Recaro Podium Carbon-fibre seats. for the inside.
According to Evasive Motorsports, this S2000R is pretty much their proof-of-concept on what they are able to pull-off in executing a perfect restomod of an iconic roadster. This restomod could be replicated or further customised on to any other S2000’s should there be any interest.
