- 2024 BMW i5 Leaks Online Ahead of May 24 Debut

Take a good gander of the 'leaked' 2024 BMW i5 EV saloon! (Source: CocheSpias.net)
Making its rounds online this week is this leaked first image of the upcoming new and all-electric BMW i5 saloon. Additionally, the model stands as the electric twin to the new eighth-gen (G60) combustion-powered 5 Series, so this leak serves as our first look of which too.
This image, which surfaced on Spanish-language auto forum CocheSpias.net, appears to be an ‘official’ one too, likely being one of the model’s key promotional artworks. Certainly, this leak also gives a clearer look at some of the new design and styling cues of the new i5 – and combustion-powered new 5 Series.

A closer look at the leaked photo reveals plenty of key design and styling touches.
Stand-out touches include the angular headlamps with L-shaped DRLs, the latter mirroring that of the refreshed seventh-gen (G20) 3 Series. There’s also what appears to be larger-sized kidney grilles with more vertical height compared to the outgoing G30 5 Series too.
Other key noticeable bits include new door handles that’s flushed with the vehicle’s body, as well as the absence of exit vents in the front fenders –another tell-tale sign of electrification. The leak doesn’t reveal any shots of the rear, but we can expect both a sleeker new C-pillar design plus slimmer new taillights.

No powertrain, performance, or EV battery stats were revealed yet, but BMW did confirm the inclusion of a trick new suspension suite for the new i5's chassis.

Besides a trick suspension, the i5 also promises Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving capabilities.
When it launches, the BMW i5 will see least two trimlines offered, which will include a base eDrive40 and an up-specced M60 xDrive. No details surrounding battery and powertrain performance were revealed yet, but BMW did confirm both a trick new suspension suite plus Level 2+ semi-autonomy.
Notable too is the fact that Malaysians keen on the new electric saloon can already register their interests online. Production kicks off circa summer this year at the Bavarian marque’s Dingolfing plant ahead of planned market entry beginning in October.
Based on this ‘leak’, what are your thoughts of the new and all-electric flavour of the defining mid-sized executive saloon then? Would this be your ideal EV of choice? Or would you still fancy something with sportier chops like the BMW i4 M50 instead? Hit the comments below with your thoughts…
